Hi all,

I've just bought a 110 hardtop as a second car - I'm a Scout leader and need something more suitable than our main car. Knowing near nothing about LR's (apart from having driving them) I asked a mechanic pal of mine who has rebuilt his own 110 to be my expert eye.

He found me this beauty; 110 from 1990, 1 year MOT, converted from a 2.5 19j to a 300tdi from a Disco, LT77 gear box, replacement rear cross member with extensions, EGR valve blanked off, straight though exhaust with no cat, replaced roof, sides and doors and all serviced and well maintained (so it seems). Just been resprayed in a rather 'vibrant' colour.

Mechanically it's sound, a few minor things that need a bit of attention but in general solid. The problem is the interior. Whilst the exterior looks cared for and loved, the interior looks like it's not had the same attention. The dash is loose and looks rough and quite a few bits are falling off or already have.

'Er indoors has stated she's not going in it at all, so means I can do what I like with it. Off the top of my head I'm planning (in no particular order);

Rear
- clear out the back, remove bench seats (don't like them or need them)
- prepare and paint inside
- insulate and soundproof
- make some clever (hopefully) storage compartments on one side
- new fold-down seats on t'other side, with some even more clever bed that can fold out for camps (just to **** off the Scouts when they're having to put up tents :))
- 2nd battery (more if I can figure out how) with split charger and inverter
- interior lighting, carpet and thin ply where needed

Front
- remove middle seat, replace with cubby box
- fix dash together (to stop bits randomly dropping off and screws falling out as is happening now)
- radio in mud console or cubby, new speakers
- insulation and sound proofing
- floor mats
- try to stop the rain coming in (been told this is a hopeless cause)
- better lighting on the dash displays
- at some point recover seats but they're ok for now

Time is limited, but nice to have a new hobby. Might find a way to get the Scouts involved - scrubbing springs to mind :). Any hoo, decided to start on cleaning out the back first, it has a very pungent aroma of dirt, oil, diesel spills etc. Seems to mostly come from the ply on the floor, so removed that and found whoever put it in hadn't cleaned up first. So a quick good scrub and already fresher. Pics below, bench seats are next as they look and smell very dubious.

I'll update as I go, but it'll take a good while.

Cheers,

Got benches out, pressure washed inside (made the neighbours stare). Looks cleaner already. Will fill holes, then sand and prepare for painting.

A mate of mine stripped out the front for me. The dash was near hanging off so he's took it off, painted the dash black again, fixed it all back and it's rock solid now. He's insulated and sealed the floor then carpeted it out and installed new seats and a cubby box.

Hold the feecking phone camera straight, just kinked my neck am off to NHS:mad:

Indeed, a very nice landie.
top tip tho`
get rid of that near on useless antitheft device.
a long lump of tube on one "end" can bend it clean off your steering wheel.
go an buy a proper antitheft lock - please!
far too nice a motor to loose eh..

Yeh I know it's rubbish, just had it lying around. Getting something solid at some point. Hoping to find something clever and less hassle than a wheel or peddle lock

Rear is tidied up a little. Not sure how long my **** insulation job will last but if it makes it through to next summer camps I'll be happy. Need to take the shine off the floor as well, like an ice rink at the mo.

hi mate, lots and lots of spray glue from a carpet shop. Got through loads of the stuff - it's the same price as a couple of beers and has a similar effect ;) Not sure how well it will hold, it seems really sturdy if applied liberally but i needed to go over places again where i'd missed spots. I'm half expecting it will start to fall off during summer, but someone I know has used it and said it's fine. The test will be when I glue the carpet to the roof. I'm getting the cheap foam stuff as it's much lighter. On reflection the key is to leave the glue a minute or so after spraying before applying the carpet. It's a lot lot warmer in the back now, just need to figure out the camp bed now.

ordinary spray glue usually peels off on the first hot day. Get proper automotive heat resistant spray adhesive.

That's what I'm worried about, but I'm been doing it for a while and on some hot days. I agree though, not a certain thing. Just experimenting for now. May well have to take your advice. First landy, lots to learn.

Hi, Baxtersoup I have a CSW and I have done something simler to the back of mine. I however used old roll mats as sound and thermal insulation and carpeted over that using the carpet adhesive. No problems with heat causing to peel and the difference with warmth at noise reduction is amazing. Also a Scout and proud:D:D

Apologies for delay updating. A mate of mine (a mechanic) kindly informed me that my mechanical knowledge is **** poor and also very kindly took over fixing my Landy properly.

A bit of scraping showed that the previous owner had just filled around the bulkhead. My mate fixed it up properly

He's tidying up the side now, the door didn't fit at all properly - looks like it'd been in a landy rolled over;
