hi all.

Just wondered if 159k miles on a p38 Range Rover with Fulll Service History (apparently) is OK. What do these engines do?

cheers

Petrol or diesel?

And remember, it's not just the engine that has done 159k miles - so has the gearbox, trasnfer box & drivetrain, suspension, interior components, etc etc etc.

That's not to say don't get it, just don't think it is only the engine that suffers wear and tear!

Diesel should be good for another 100K if well maintained, V8's are another matter, toss a coin as to how long before head gasket, liners or block fail. Gearbox is a possible failure item on the diesel if the engine has been chipped.

OK, thanks. Sorry. Its the 4.0 v8 on LPG. Its had the following done..

AIR SPRINGS ( SUSPENSION AIRBAGS ) REPLACED
thE VALVE BLOCK HAS BEEN SENT AWAY AND RECONDITIONED
THE AIR SUSPENSION HEIGHT ECU HAS BEEN SENT AWAY AND BEEN RECONDITIONED ALSO.
AND THE SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR HAS ALSO BEEN RECONDITIONED

BOTH HEADS REMOVED AND SKIMMED & NEW HEAD GASKETS NEW THERMOSTAT. AND NEW WATER PUMP FITTED.

I do take your point the the drivetrain/gearboxes could go.

Im thinkin I'm gonna go for it..

That suggests it has been overheating, personally I'd walk away as it could be slipped liners or a cracked block. Look for signs of Irontite or K Seal in the header tank.
