thanks DD3, I've an inde about an hour away...

the damp, what little there is, in the driver's footwell rather than passenger... does this signify anything?

Thanks
Ez

It's leaking on the right rather than the left?

or is it the left rather than the right?

;)

I'll be joining you.... where's my hat? :D

Most, if not all? matrix posts detail coolant in the passenger side (RHD)... the 4" concertina pipe is completely dry to touch... so what is it that comes off the drivers side of the matrix - flow or return?

Thanks
Ez

heater matrix leaking - some dampness driver side well suggesting leak
occasional misfire
feels 'a bit' underpowered

The damp is more likely your sunroof leaking imo.
Is it often wet or just now and then?
If it is the heater matrix and you're ok with the cold for the time being, you can disconnect your heater hoses where they go through the bulkhead and reconnect together with some copper pipe, until you get it fixed, which will stop the coolant loss at least!

don't think I have a sunroof, just the manual lift glass roof but the car is bone dry (I've hosed it) except for the dampness high up the driver footwell + the car smells of coolant, so leaking matrix but from the opposite side to most posters.

Thanks for suggestions, all welcome,
Ez

If it smells like coolant - its coolant:D

Cost is dashboard out - doable DIY but quite a big job imho.

Anyone familiar with this way of removing the matrix WITHOUT DASH REMOVAL? Or removed using the method described. Does it make sense for those who know the set up?

Extract from 4 x 4 site:

... I found out the heater matrix was leaking, this must have been leaking a while and had Radweld in, me changing the antifreez brought the problem back ...... this is what i did.

1. first bypass the matrix under the bonnet (car can still be driven)
2. remove 4" flexy from heater
3. remove 2" pipe to window screen dimister under dash
4. remove the large black plastci moulding vent by unbolting the mounts by the carpet,
5. remove the glove box

you now have good access

6. remove 2 screw from the side of matrix
7. remove screw from pipe retainer on matrix
8. with a large set of cutters ,squash and cut through the damaged matrix pipes.
9. pullpipes out from under the bonnet,
10, slide matrix out of the heater

this has taken 15min and the matrix is out,

now on the new matrix be careful and cut the main pipes off , leaving enough straight to get a hose on and a clip. make 20 flexy hoses up to the original length of the matrix pipe, you should now have matrix 2 flexy pipe with solid pipes at the other end,

refit the matrix

1. slide matrix back in heater
2. bend the flexy hose so you can poke the solid ends back through the bulk head,
3. refit side cover on matrix
4. refit glove box
5. refit heater pipes
6. connect pipes under bonnet
7, sit back with engine running and a cup of tea while it all get warm ,

All done max time an hour and no dash out (thanks to Mick)...

What do you think people?

:welcome: on board! Good luck with yer new family member. as others said : :nopics: Them hippos are known for doing some random act of wierdness but don't worry you'll get to know your guy soon :)

random act of wierdness
I like that... :pound:

and yep! I've a few bits of weirdness but you know what... I love the old thing already... no really ... I have a feeling my wallet won't...

She's off for a pressure test on Thursday, heater matrix issue??? And then there's the misfire... and of course the 2 amigos making an entry every now and then.... so all in all it's an experience, but my eternal optimism wins out (thus far).

<sighs>
