Oh crap, I didn't see this thread

As mentioned above I am indeed a V6 owner and must say it is a beast of an engine (performance wise). It would kick any Freelanders arse in a race as I often do.
However, they do indeed suffer head gasket problems. I had both of mine done about 2k miles ago after she started puffing steam out the back. No damage to the engine though, just skimmed the heads and fitted new gaskets, new cam belts and tensioners. You don't want to know the cost!
As for fuel consumption, it's thirsty. But, considering the weight, 4 wheel drive and lack of aerodynamics it's no surprise I get 19-24 mpg.
Would I buy another V6 Freelander? Hell yeah! It's a load of fun, especially in the wet. I'm yet to be beaten off the lights

And, I'd like to point out that some of the diesel engines are suffering head gasket failures now; so buying a diesel is no guarantee you won't be forking out for one.
