Newbie looking for his first range rover

Hi to everyone on this forum, doing a really great job,

I am on a hunt to find a Range Rover 2002+ Vogue

Must be black

Must have cream or a light colour interior

Must have less than 70k miles

Must be below 14k as thats all the cash i have as going to do an lpg conversion fo £1500


Am i being too optomistic?

You will regret it. Please, please, please, don't buy it! I had a P38 DSE, beautiful but getting from A to B was like betting on the Epsom Derby.

Don't buy a Range Rover, don't do it.

If you want a toy to play with, fine but if you NEED it to 'go' buy a Fiesta or an.....anything else.

If you've got £14K to spend, please do your home work. Please please.

£14k is a lot of money and I want you to enjoy the vehicle you buy. Don't go anywhere near Range Rover!!!

I know, Rangies look FANTASTIC! They do, they really do! They are ultra comfy too but they need to be.....whilst you wait for the AA.

FFS dont listen to him mate. he seems to be some weirdo with a complete grudge against rangies, and a strange love affair with the suzuki jimny. P38 sounds like a good solid bet, they might have a few teething troubles but that's all they are. Talk to many of the longer standing members on here, some of them have newer Rangies.

Just look at the Forum! It's nothing but people looking to solve problems!

Don't buy one I implore you! I don't know your financial position but unless you can afford to write it off, please don't even consider Ranger Rover.

My Garage. A 4x4 specialist said "Why did you get rid of your old Volvo V70XC...We know it had twice the mileage but a RANGE ROVER? fortunately, the Garage I PX'd the Volvo with, failed to sell the Volvo, so I got her back, I did the odd bits that needed doing and I am a happy man once more.

I can't tell you to buy a Volvo V70Xc or AWD but, for the vast majority of off road stuff the Volvo will see you fine and for 14K you'll pick up a very very very good example..I know that you might want the ride height and the Volvo's won't give you that but if you want SERIOUS 4X4 Look else where...please.

Why are you STILL posting on a range rover forum if you hate them so much? If little else than trying to be a scaremonger. You may have had some problems and found the vehicle unsatisfactory, but that is not to say other people will. I don't quite understand you.

I rest my case Newbie, even the fella who says I'm a weirdo mentions "teething problems" Believe me, you will regret buying a Rangie unless you adore spending herds of cash, or enjoy problem solving exercises under the bonnet on the hard shoulder.

Bigbensons right. The only people who post here seem to be people with problems I must admit I was surprised to find people posting with problems on a technical help forum. I am going to sugest that we start a new forum for ANY vehicle owner that hasnt had some kind of issue.....

As a mater of interest just did a quick search on a volvo forum - 20000+ posts, I will wager not all of them are gushing about trouble free motoring.

M1fte, you should be able to pick up what you are after for the kind of money you have, but you may have to settle for one with a higher mileage, but then again, the way things are going , who knows? When I bought mine, 2 months ago ,I bid the seller £1500 under what he was asking - and got it. You say you are planning to spend £1500 on an lpg conversion, are you going to fit it yourself? - I am half way through at the moment, and it is proving to be a piece of cake.

I am up for joinning that forum,sorry but in the 12 months or so iv had mine she has only needed a wipper washer pump £34... people on here will post with their probs thats what its for.. yes you may get a bad one. I still know naff all about ranges but i did spend some time on here asking questions and taking notes (i still do) take time lots of it if need be,ask and question people.Some ranges are bad(dogs) but far from all..

yu cant win - on one hand the forum is derided for only posting faults - and immediately after, derided fur tons of "chaff" in between serious posts. It is a light-hearted forum where you can get the answers to problems, if yu wish, or just come and chat to like minded? individuals. As stated many times before - if it aint your cup-of-tea then there are plenty of other options.

You should easily find what you're after, but have a bit of lee way with colour, not that many black ones about.
Don't worry too much about mileage, I would always go for a 100,000 mile Rangie that 'had a new engine 10,000 miles ago' than one that has done 70,000 miles and might go wrong in the next 20k.
There are plenty of Rangies out there that have done starship mileages with no engine problems, although quite a few have had the V8 engine block go porous.
There are lots of posts on here that will advise you of the things to look for on a Rangie.
Remember post '01' plate cars will carry the increased VED band of £400/year (or whatever the Labour ****s will try to con us with next)
The bottom is slowly dropping out of the larger 4x4 market so it might pay to hang on and see what you get through patience.
Even the newer L322 Rangies can be bought in the trade for £14k - £16k.

Only 60k on the clock, 1 owner.

and got it dirt cheap !

I've got a freelander for sale, TD4 Hardback SE 2005

haven't got a clue what that bloke is on about, i have just got myself a rangie which i imported back from japan, one issue with a blend motor(now fixed). i have just had it on a 900 mile round trip and it drove faultless. make sure you press all the buttons, anything electric make sure it works, make sure the temp off the air coming out of the vents is the same, check the air suspension, auto box and you should be ok. i am really enjoying mine and this lot will help you out if you do have any issue's. good luck.

Thanks for the info guys,

Some posts have got me thinking and i will defnatelty be carrying out a car inspection, i believe RAC or the AA have such a service. I have phoned Land Rover and they said they would check the car aswell.

Who should i go for?

I was actually looking for a L322 model, with regards to te lpg conversion if i had a clear set of instructions and a few pics i may have a go myself,

I may hand on till september as the price could possibly depreciate due to the new '58' reg plate but im still on the hunt.

Any more info on possible prroblems and what to look out for when viewing would be much appreciated

Bigbenson, you keep rattling on about Volvo, obviously you dont realise that the P38 and Volvo all come from the same source, FORD. Obviously you havent been to the many Volvo forums on the net either, look under XC90 and what do you see, a list of problems people are trying to solve, oh but of course you wouldnt know that as you are too busy moaning about a car you dont have on a forum that is tired of your ranting rubbish.

Just got my '05 reg D5 back from dealer for some warranty work.

I noticed that the awd system was not working; struggled to get off my steep gravel drive.

Dealer said it was a stripped splined sleeve & that it was a common fault.

Would not have noticed but for my dodgy gravel drive.

Must be loads of 'em out there with same problem.

At same time also had:
all bright trim replaced; gone white tarnished.
both rear wheel bearings replaced.

They could not resolve occasional firing on 4 cylinders when cold, that can only be cleared by removing key from ignition & retrying.

Could not cure creaking from front n/s low in foot well. Replaced drop linkage from anti roll bar but no good.

hi

own a freelander at the minute, looking to go upto the rangie next year, sussing out prices on autotrader just now, for 10k a 2002 vogue with LPG already done, as earlier mentioned the prices will only come down

as for problems bloody hell after a freelander, for me it can only get better, but do the work yourself and save a fortune.
