Hi All,
I am looking for P38 and i am lacking some info on what models are out there at the top end.
I have tried googling but it seems hard to work out.
Basically i want a high spec model.
I think HSE is the best spec? But what is an autobiography.
I ideally want a Holland and Holland but seem hard to find and i dont have a massive budget.
Are there any other limited editions i should know about?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hse on ur budget you aint gonna find a good holland n holland for nothing

A good holland would probably be £6k+?
This is a third car that will see little use so would rather spend sub £4k and have something to tinker with. Not to mention a fund to fix anything .

I personally wouldn't get too hung up on specific models and go for the best P38 you can find. The more stuff on them, the more stuff you'll be fixing!

Its good advice but I have always had a thing for high spec and unusual models. Its one of the things most important to me when i buy a car.
But agree good condition important.
Would rather fix up a non runner Holland than buy a mint, low miles standard car.
Might be a bit odd? :)

4k wont get a limited edition well atleast not a H&H, Linley or similar...

The Autobiography model was launched to allow those with cash to specify any colours and options they wanted fitted....so you can find some Autobiography models with some weird combinations of colours and options.

The HSE was the top spec standard model, the Autobiography was a custombuild, the H&H was a limited edition model, the Linely was one of the rarest and will command a high price.

In you 4k range, you can get hold of Autobiography, CARiN, Vouge 50, Westminister etc....

The 4.6 was the top standard engine, although Overfinch did put some mental motors in with some good body styling changes...you may get a tired Overfinch for 4k but very rarely.

Standard top Spec Cars:
4.6 HSE and later on the Vogue
2.5 DSE and post 2000 the dHSE+

a good book to look for is Range Rover: the Second Generation by James Taylor....it is full of information on the different models and trim levels.

Perfect ... Exactly what i was after. Thanks for that.
Will hunt down the book.
Just found a westminter on autotrader, so will look into that one.

Thanks very much!

Ultimate spec on last models was Vogue SE, 4.6 only 51/02/52 plates -
came with everything - comet alloys, rousched leather, nav, HK, etc etc, and for some reason the most hideous GREEN-TINTED wood in the usual places....................

No accounting for taste, apparently....................................

True. Extra speakers for the HK system. 3 more than the Vogue. And that green stuff is bamboo as I am lead to believe. The Vogue has the nav as well. Well, mine does. And the SE is also more on the insurance. Not as bad as a H&H though :):):)

I had a 51-plate 4.6 Vogue in buckingham blue with ivory piped leather - was a lovely thing - Sat nav, HK, Comet alloys, and absolutely perfect cosmetically - got it at trade price from the original owner who was emigrating.

Put 10000 miles on it in 6 months and sold it on for what I paid - had to fork out 700 quid for some rear brakes and a service at Guy Salmon - it was still under LR Warranty - but I thoroughly enjoyed the car.

Hey, mine is a 2002 vogue se....with the hideous green tinted wood:p I'm am growing to quite like it, although mine is more brown / green than the others i've seen. Goes well with the epsom green paint:)

Does the vogue se come with the wood/leather steering wheel? And is the steering wheel green as well??

As has been said before, don't get hung up on model names. After 12+ years, especially in your price range, badges will have been added, interiors changed and all sorts of wonderful things may have been done to the car.
Then you get the car dealers who know so little that they think all grey Range Rovers are Westminsters.
Or an Autobiography that was ordered as such purely because some nutter wanted a particular paint finish but nothing else.
Or you get mine which is a DSE but the bloke only bought one of these because he didn't want a sunroof but then specified Oxford leather and extra walnut trim, or so his son told me.
You'll have to go and look at any possible cars and have yourself a tick list of features that you want.
