newbie in town

Hey ho! just saying hello to you lot from not so sunny south wales. First times on here but normally active in 101fc club and register. Goodwood by name and by nature. Trying to run this bad boy on wood gas isnt that easy bt not impossible

The tall thing in the back is a wood gassifier and the guts of the new fuel supply system.

cheers! i spent last year stripping and rebuilding my 101... chassis repairs, power steering added, new hydraulics and electrics...and the last 4 months building the wood gassifier....still should be free/cheap to run now!

I stand corected lol

I ve driven a mile (measured up hill) on the woodgas set-up, then broke down I found out what caused that whilst stripping the lot out ready for MOT as not sure what id be allowed to bring into the MOT station. That remedied, and MOTd, the lot is going back in with the addition of a few bracing bars to secure everything. A few further mods are being finished as we speak to finish the set-up.
My insurance has now been changed to wood gas as the main fuel and they are satisfied by the carrying of a fire extinguisher and written confirmation from any garage as to the secure fixing of the components into the vehicle structure.
If the arses and elbows in DVLA can agree, this should then be tax exempt also and virtually free to drive on the road. Worst case scenario is that i still have to pay the highwaymen but virtually fuel free.
I have no idea yet how far it will go on a burner full of wood or how far i can drive before i have to empty the water catch tanks, bt i work local so this shouldnt pose much of a problem. If i were to be laid off under these harsh economic times, i can still work local with my truck for myself and collect fire wood as i go
Incidentally wood gassification goes back much further than WW2....certainly 1886 and maybe a tad further. Used to supply gas for street lighting as was coal gassification (town gas) Just depends on what you combust to give the gas (wood for wood gas, coal for coal gas, coconut shells for coconut gas (much else is usually referred to as biomass gassification))

How about doing a full write up on this and either a link to your blog or put it up on here and see if the mods could sticky it would make very interesting reading.

Yeah i ll do a write up, although there is a write up in Six Stud, the 101 club magazine for anyone interested, issue 69 back couple of pages...
Let me get passed the breakdown stages as i expect to have a few of those yet...
One of the chaps in the 101 club said something along the lines of its quite bizzare, one of the few places you can hear of trying to keep straw out of your engine! (i use straw to filter the gas before the engine has a munch on it)
