Hi folks , just bought a a freelander 06 sport td4, 45k. have done egr, mod and synergy 2. Just wondered if there is any info on larger intercoolers and turbo upgrades, ie more tourque. How much will the drive train take?sorry to ask but have a modded impreza, and like to play/improve things, whats the max bhp/touque one could expect,:D thanks bigredrob

max torque/bhp:confused: It's a land rover ffs:doh:.

well almost...............it''s a gaylander:D

bit of an unknown quantity really, although lots of td4's have egr bypasses and synergys fitted, not many people tune the bollocks out of a freelander.

as a rough estimate, you've probably gone as far as you can with any degree of reliability. certainly some of the higher settings on the synergy are reckoned to be too much for the torque convertor in the auto box.

A tuned 'diesel' impreza??? didnt think so..... check out the rev counter range on petrol and diesel engines, I'm sure you will notice the difference ;)

Synergy and EGR bypass is about the most noticable adjustment you can make.... I suppose you could always put silicon hoses and performance air filter on it ....... but why?

You are aware that the Sport badge is for the alloys and onboard gizmo's rather than speed aren't you? :D :D :D

Opti is right, we auto users can't use maximum settings on the synergy box so the manual models are probably reaching their maximum torque as well. You could try simpler things like a decat though I've yet to see a supplier for a Td4 decat pipe but I'm sure someone will be able to do one. Don't think I'd be too keen to put any more torque through what is already a stressed drivetrain other than what we normally do.
Might be worth contacting Roverron & asking him what he thinks would be a reasonable maximum.

Apparently you can squeeze about 200bhp out of the td4. however i suspect the drivetrain may have also been fettled...

Specification | Freelander Storm

also looks like it costs a few quid!!!

now for what it's worth, I'm quite happy with my freelander commercial, it suits my uses perfectly, but, had to have a bit of an eek moment at the following found on the freelander storm website:

"To have a Freelander racer to the same spec as our own, Freelander Storm and Tornado Motorsport, with the customer supplying a 3 door Freelander the price would be around £15,285.00":eek::eek::eek:
