Newbie from Somerset

Hi all,

I'm hopefully getting my first Defender this weekend I've always wanted one and been offered a swap for a 92 200tdi for my golf. It needs some work but I'm going to take a gamble and go for it!!

Just wondering how reliable they are as it will be my daily? I have friends who are mechanics and I'm going to try and get stuck in myself. It has rust on the bulkhead and around the passengers door support. Also both axle seals are leaking oil and the transfer box. Needs a new windscreen and i think that's just the start by the sounds of some of the threads on here haha. Are they all fixable with stupid amounts of work?

im in somerset too ! best engine i reckond easy to repair just check it all over for rust i mean everywhere i got a 200 windscreen here if you want it (pm me)

200,s where tough old things . make sure the oil pressure light works and it doesn't flicker at tickover when engine is up to temp and check the obvious things like head gasket . Lt gearbox is agricultural at best but it could be suffering from dead synchro rings on 2nd and 3rd
