Evening everyone, new to the forum and looking to upgrade my Freelander to a Series 2 TD5 Disco.

Just test drove a Series 2 TD5 today with an auto box in. When its put in reverse all is fine, but then when you put it back into drive the M & S warning lights come on and the car sometimes drives in 'limp mode'.
However, if they come on, then you turn the car off and start it again they go off, any idea of the fault? is it a big issue? costly? This doesn't happen all the time, sometime you can drive it, put in in reverse then drive and the warning lights don't come on at all. The current owner says its a solenoid on the side of the gear box thats sticking causing the warning lights to come on.

Any advice???????

I'd ask him to fix it before you buy it .. If he asks for more money, get a receipt and warranty for work done and work out if you ...
a) can afford the extra,
b) still want it
c) can find a similar one that doesn't need work.
d) buy it for the asking price, less a reputable companies quotation for the work to be done.
e) just walk away

;)
