What engine options are there for the oldish defenders? ('88-'91??)

Would they be alright for a 21 yo's first car? they seem very cheap to insure! what about running costs?

welcome to the site, have a search as running costs have been covered loads of times as have different injins

The 2.5 n/a ( non turbo ) would be your best bet as it only develops 67 bhp and is the cheapest to insure.

my personal opinion is that the landy is for someone who likes to fettle with their vehicle once a month, there always seems to be something that needs looking at / fixing / modding, so if you dont mind getting your hands dirty now and again,then sure its a good buy....if you want something to cruise on alot of motorways or duals.....then forget it. its not a relaxing ride. having said that i have got round to using my landy more than my evo,,,,maybe its the bad weather that makes me do it or maybe i kinda like the old landy.
