Thanks FP. Somewhere out there is a Fender with my name on it, but I don't think it's a 110. That'd answer a few of my reservations, but I just can't love the shape. Whereas seein a 90 always makes me smile, and I do need cheerin up!

Subsequent talk of applying lippy doesn't put me off, unless MLCrisis really kicks in and I go through a Goth phase!

I just spent a Landy budget on bikes! They are folders so might even fit in back of a 90. If I could drive my beloved new bikes in the back of my beloved new car, with my beloved up front with me, then i'd be living the dream. But am still 2 beloveds short of that!

Got 2 x 2 wheels. Want 4x4 wheels next :D

:D I was locked in the east wing of the castle with only half the usual number of servants to cater for my needs. That certainly opened my eyes to the harsh realities of life.

I say old chap. I took a gander at one of those Rave Roger thingamajigs, and I must say I certainly don't fancy one much. They just don't have the elan, the je nais pas of a Defender. One has made up one's mind. I'm back on Autotrader and searching with intent.

My only concern re. landyzone is that my lack of car-craft, and non-interest in driving the thing to the edge of its limitations will mean you hairy-arse-crack guys will see me as some kind of wuss - perish the thought. That said, ask me how much I really care what other people think...
 
Why not ask one of your local Landy zone mates to give you a shot first, it may change your mind. If you still want one after that then jump in and enjoy. I take mine out for a drive just to cheer me up.
Even if it needs some work, and it will, you will learn what you need to know. Spending hours on eBay looking for parts, tools and stuff is on of the best bits!

I've had to stop looking for now because I haven't decided what to spend, what condition to buy, etc. Looking for a car when you don't know what you want is frustrating and fruitless.

However, have decided that is must be a tdi, it will have to be a second car, so it will have to be from the cheaper end of the market. I will have to spend dosh and time on it, but I think that will be fun to do. So I'm looking for one that needs a bit of tlc but not due a rebuild yet (coz that is beyond me technically and financially).

So I want one which has got a few more M.O.T.s in it, but which I can do up a bit. I don't want to spend more than 3k to begin with. Any chance of finding a scruffy but good runner for that?

I have been behind the wheel of LR only once. But as it wasn't mine I was worried about putting it in a ditch. And the steering wheel didn't seem to be connected to the front wheels in any way. It was more fear than fun as I barged my way along country lanes without having a feel for where I was on the road. Didn't exactly feel safe but it was certainly a good thrill-ride.

Would definitely like to do it again with a bit less pressure. If anyone is willing to let a newb have a go in their pride and joy then I'd be very grateful.

In the meantime I'm back on Autotrader, now I think I know what I'm after...

1985 chassis, hard-top, with a 200tdi, suspension lift, BFG tyres, roof lamps and some other mods. And no clue what most of that means! Fun fun fun.

Please can someone recommend a good Landy-friendly mechanic in north hampshire. Not sure I wanna take it to a town mech, but gotta take it somewhere coz I'm currently clueless on the mechanical side. Will learn slowly. Any advice you guys?
