Hi guys,

Not sure if this is a common problem on VCUs. I have just changed the VCU with a new one. My landy has 90000km so far. However, after the minor operation :), whenever i change gear from 4th to 5th, i start hearing a clinging noise under the car, as if there is not enough torque to enable the change in gear. This causes that I have to go back in 4th until the revs are up and then I change into 5th and its fine. The noise is heard both on 4th and 5th gear when the revs are low. I have a suspicion that the noise is coming from the VCU as I never used to hear the noise before changing the VCU. Anybody can help?

Thanks,

Ivan

The landy is a 2000 TD landrover. i go into 5th from 4th gear while doing around 80km/hr. This might be a low speed but here in Malta we do not have the long roads as in UK :)

Thanks.

Hi Rob,

I changed the old one as the car was making a clinking noise while cornering at low speeds. My mechanic insisted it was the VCU that needed to be changed. The noise was there for some time when i changed it. I have replaced it with a genuine one as I got it for a good deal. Otherwise, I would have never chanegd it for that amazing high price quoted by the LR dealer - around Euro 1200.00 / GBP 1000.
