Well my tyres are about 1mm from the wear indicator, do it's time to start looking for a new set. The problem is I'm running 225/55/17 at the minute, the cheapest tyres I can find. In this size are about £120 each! So £600 for 5, I'm not willing to pay that! So I tried searching for other variations of 225/xx/17. I found a suprising amount of cheaper tyres in the 225/65/17 size, downt to as little as £84 each, just over £400 for 5, that's better.
So does anyone use tyres of this size? Or does anyone have any advice for selecting another tyre size, other than change to 15s. I'm looking into that aswel.

yes. i use 225/65/17. They are actually van tyres. These are great for the road as the side walls are stiffer and dont cause so much tyre lean. Mine are Wanli transporters.

The change in rolling radius with a 225/65/17 from a 225/55/17 is considerable and may result in the vehicle feeling overgeared. Also while the van tyres will have the load rating what about the speed rating from your insurance point of view ? I've just fitted Pirelli Scorpions which were £118 each and the change in ride and handling from the well worn Michelin Synchrones is very noticable, even though the Michelins were not completely down on tread they were showing cracks in the sidewalls. Not bad for 60K though.

Allan, it's a little bit over an inch, or a gearing change of about 5%.

I've just fitted these ,
KUMHO TYRES / 4X4 / KUMHO KL17 KUMHO KL 17 - 225/55R17 97W TL :: £84.40 :: 4x4 Tyres - SUV Tyres - All Terrain Tyres - Off Road Tyres - 17" :: R17" - 225/55/17, 225/55 R 17 ::

I asked around suppliers down here and was only offered peculier brands that I had never heard of.
Anyway , I've got Kumho's on another car an am very pleased with them .
I've used Camskill four times now and there price and service can't be beaten , I ordered on a Wednesday and they arrived Friday.
They are on par with the Yokohama Geolanders they replaced and are good in rain, mud & snow . They are quiet too.

Yeah sorry, misread the size. The kumhos that you got are a good price & the best bet. Check out the reviews, Kumho regularly mix it with the best names.
