New Tyres for a D3

Hi All,

I'm looking to put 4 new tyres on my D3, usage is circa:-

80% country roads
10% Motorway
10% Off road (grass tracks / forestry tracks nothing to heavy going)

Think i have narrowed it down to the below

Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV - 255/60 R18 V (112)
Michelin Latitude Sport 3 - 255/60 R18 V (112)
Michelin CrossClimate SUV - 255/60 R18 V (112)

Just wondering if anyone have any feedback on these or alternative recommendations ? Online review are good but cant bet owners feedback.

Pirellie zero and the ATR are both good initially, but seem ot go off within a few thousand miles needing quite a bit of oversteer if being pushed hard, strange road handling manners as they age as well, really weird down country lanes as you seem to get shot from one side of your lane to the other.
Mine are at 3mm and I wont be replacing with pirellis.

Ive had Michelin on land rovers before and they last and handle well for many miles, 50k on a live axle land rover wasnt unusual.

I’ve had Michelin on other cars and always been happy with them and my gut feeling was leaning toward them.

Thought not sure whether to go latitude sport or cross climate and some one has also mentioned Michelin Latitude Cross as and option

I put Cross Climates on my V70 in November in anticipation of another heavy winter. They were fine in the limited snow we had and handling in the wet and dry is excellent, but are showing signs of wear after 11K miles. My guess is they will need changing at around 20-25K. Michelin Primacy generally lasted about 30K.
ATS Euromaster were doing a deal when I bought mine and a quick Google shows £50 off when you buy 4 Michelin, plus a free 8" Tablet and a further 10% off for Monday appointments.

I had them on the first D3 I had from new and found they were a very nice and quiet tyre, the second one came home with Continentals on it that were actually very noisy I found.

Tbh I was expecting the ATRs to be noisier than the Zeros but couldnt actaully tell any difference.

Some people on the D3/4 forum reckoned you could get 40+k from the ATRS Im not sure how as mine are currently at 19k, front have another couple of thou at best and rears maybe another 5k.
So they will hit 20k and be pretty much dead, not good for 600 quid!

If longevity is a primary concern go for BFG KO2s (assuming they make the size needed). I have them on my D2 and and am very happy with them. They wear very slowly, offer good performance on road (excellent in the wet and snow) and are up to most off road tasks. The downside is that that they are louder than less aggressive tyres and will slightly reduce fuel economy.
Alternatively, BFG offer a summer, road-biased "Urban Terrain" tyre, though I have no experience of this and cannot vouch for it.

I’ve Goodyear wrangler HP on mine, I believe it’s the standard LR tyre, 255/55/19
It’s a nice quiet long lasting tyre for mainly road use, although recently I’ve put a set of 265/70/17 bfg ko2 on, nice ride but less mpg, looks good with them fitted

Any rubbing or steering issues going from a 30" to a 31.6" tyre?

No, and the car looks so much better with a fuller arch

The indi susp land rovers eat tyres way faster than the older live axle motors

I cnat remember exactly which tyres it is but one make eats the wheel rims inner lip away.

That looks really good, I’ve got the 235/70/17 cooper discoverer AT/3s fitted on mine

Have the same rims as ur goodself

I have the 19” rims with new 255/55/19 Goodyear wrangler HP
that came with the car but prefer the look of the Disco with the all terrain tyre with the bigger sidewall, also in my opinion, it drives nicer with less tramlining

Always nice seeing a decent set of tyres , drives me nuts when u see low profile tyres on a 4x4

Must admit was concerned at first fitting the AT/3s , but quiet down the motorway and was very impressed in the snow, remained well planted so all in all very pleased with them
