Hi all, I have just collected my first land rover (2002 Freelander) earlier today and am really looking forward to being part of this community.

I hope to get some help and advise on a small issue as to what I should do.

The remote central locking was apparently working up until recently but now I have to use the Key. I have been assured that the battery has been changed but I will be prudent and replace this myself tomorrow. If this fails to work can anybody offer any advise?

Also, any advise as to where I can get pick up an owners manual?

Many thanks
S

Not great on the technical stuff but Ill try, The engine is a TD4, not sure what the VCU is and the rear drive shaft has been removed but came with the jeep.

No the insurance don't know, is this an issue? I can have the shaft fitted if this a problem though.

It is possible that you are uninsured.
of more concern is the reason for removing the propshaft. It is usually done to hide drivetrain problems which may be very expensive.

see http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/my-fl-two-wheel-drive-235630.html

I suggest yu go into the gaylander (freelander) section and browse the threads and get up to speed on your vehicle very quickly.

good news - the TD4 is the best of the bunch.

Thanks for that, I'll look into that, I was told that this is was done to improve the fuel economy. Their is only 70,000 on the clock.
I will take a look in the freelander section and get up to speed.
The person that sold the car only had it for a short period of time, apparently he buys and sell the odd jeep here and there.
He did replace a large bearing that is in the mid section of the drivetrain.
I really appreciate your help mad hat man.

From my very limited knowledge that large bearing I mentioned above is a new VCU bearing and has been fitted to the removed propshaft.
