I've just bought a J plate 200tdi defender.

Being new to Landies, can someone explain how the lever needs to be moved for Diff lock and high/low? And what it would be used for?

Backward for high (normal) ratio and forwards for (low). Then in either left for diff lock. Is there not a design on the knob?

Difflock is usually used in conditions where traction is likely to be lost , and low range when needing either to move slower, or climb or descend steep slopes , or pull a heavy load. It can be advantageous to use difflock when traveling on snowy roads, difflock should not be used on high grip surfaces . It is quite easy to change from low range to high range on the move , but it is a trickier job to go the other way!! So most people stop the vehicle to change gear range . Difflock can be engaged and diengaged on the move . HTSH

Cheers, some good info.

So in high or low ratio there's no lights on the dash, is that correct?

The Diff lock lights come on, I was just confused about high/low which you guys have kindly answered for me :)
