What do you think new rocker gasket or over heating? I did notice water coming out of the hose going to the expansion tank. So drained and refilled rad. Can't run as the battery is deader than a dodo. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1373828327.926028.jpg

Don't know as I haven't really had it a drive. It's the landlords one. The plan is I tinker and fix it up and don't pay rent :). So new battery is the first thing. I jumped it the other day and it was driving loads of power but loads of white smoke. That's what is making me thing gasket.

head gasket you mean ,white smoke can be water if it disappears quickly or unburnt fuel if it hangs about

The oil all seems to be on the top and opposite the exhaust on the wing. Must be spraying out at some force. It does need a new exhaust gasket as you can see air bubbles in the oil around the exhaust manifold.

Thinking about it breathing heavy it might be doing just that as I seem to remember seeing a lot of oil around the breather.

First things first, I'd check the breather can breathe. Make sure it's connected up to the right point on the intake (not sure on diesels) and give it a good clean out. There should be a slight negative pressure in the rocker box...if not it will probably leak.

A new rocker gasket is pennies. when refitting clean the head mating surfaces with brake cleaner or something and glue the gasket to that with gasket sealer and give the top surface a good dose of grease before fitting then it shouldn't leak. I finally got mine to not leak! Then I filled it with oil when there was a slight breeze....shouldn't have bothered!

Did you have oil in the same area? I'm thinking rocker cause it is so high up on the head.

When you put the gasket on put a good smear of hylomar either side so it makes a good seal. Might be a pain to get off in the future but at least you'll know its got a good seal :)

Like I said if the breather is working sealer on _one_ side (bottom) of the gasket, grease on the other. Comes apart a dream then. If the breather is blocked it doesn't matter how much sealer you put on the pressure will blow it out...

I can't really tell from your picture but it looks like oil on top of the head and then blown about which would suggest its probably the rocker gasket. or running down from the breather.

If you're fixing it up and it's not running great then you might want to adjust the tappets before you replace the rocker cover gasket.

She seems to be running just fine besides a bit of smoke plenty of power at the low end and high!!

So had another look at this yesterday. Seems the oil is coming from breather. Removed it cut away old liquid gasket from it and resealed and replaced. Engine is still smoking when accelerating. Removed pipe of breather and smoke increases, smoke also pours out of the port on the breather. Any ideas. Engines aren't my thing btw.

Check that you aren't just losing it from the oil filler cap!

If it's running down the filler tube on the cover, I suggest that you might consider the very cheap option of replacing the rubber seal with a new one ;) ;)
