Nice colour combo, photo's please.

Questions:

1. Do you get your hands dirty and what's your experience level???

2. Do you know the service history and list of any parts fitted to date???

Now, the first things to check are the engine cooling system and the air springs followed by a good service.

Island 4x4 on the web are a good parts supplier plus there are many other parts suppliers about just ask, advise is free here.

Try and stay away from "Britpart Parts" there own brand stuff is better know as "****part" around here, some of the stuff they sell are OEM parts in ****part boxes, but you'll get to sort the good from the bad.

Hey, Big Bill, I am about to buy a 2001 P38 V8 in black with cream leather etc, etc.,
It has 130k on the clock with a facelift on the front, which looks the dogs blox and I'm really chuffed I found this one... I've been shopping for weeks because my missus wants a two tone steering wheel, you know, cream and whatsiss and must be black exterior.
Anyway, I've had plenty of time to wander around this forum and found there are blokes here who will offer advice and another, a real gent, who will actually help me if I can't manage it myself.
I haven't parted with my cash yet because the dealer is mot-ing and checking the items I pointed out, but I hope to drive the car soon after checking said items myself and paying the man.
One small point I would make here is that the ****takers haven't put me off... yet.
Here's hoping we've got ourselves good buys.
Chris.

Don't worry about the **** taking it comes as standard on here and all for fun. You won't find a better bunch of honest genuine people on here always willing to help. My first P38 had mega air suspension problems made worse by a garage and the guys on here sorted it and gave me so much help ( another thank you to Wammers & Datatek) Have fun enjoy your P38 and enjoy the time spent on Landyzone.

Had my 97 4.6 hse for almost two and a half years,it's been serviced regulary and apart from two front air springs and the mandatory door lock problems I have to admit I wouldn't be without the old girl. One period of bad snow and you'll wish you had one years before.Good luck with your's and welcome to the club.

Being as you have LPG make sure your engines cooling system is in first class working order, overheating the engine is a major contributory factor to-wards slipped cylinder liners which can be repaired, but at a major cost (250/300 quid now apposed to a possible 2500 later for tophat liners and an engine rebuild, just a warning....).

There was a mention of a small mod drilling/enlarging a hole in the thermostat or water pump housing, try a search or someone might link to the post, that possibly helps prevent the liners slipping.

Check the suspension airbags for any sign of cracking at the bottom of the air bags when at full height. Front/Rear Airbags cost about 250 for the parts.

Changing the Auto Trans Fluid certainly won't hurt..

P38's can be very expensive to repair but do it properly with good preventative maintenance and they're a wonderful vehicle to drive/own. They only become really expensive when they haven't been looked after correctly.

zzr1200, Thank's for that. I have a new XTZ 1200 superTen
The only problems the car seems to have is, the rear washer no water is coming out i have tried putting a pin in and that didin't work?

Door locks and unlocks some times for no reason when driving along.
I have had 4x4's before but this is just pure class and put's the biggest smile on my face every time I use it.

I will try and get some photo's on here later.

Cheers again BIG BILL

BB, if I were you I'd pm Datatek and purchase a cable for adjusting/fault finding the suspension EAS system, you will also receive a disc with the EAS software, I believe a copy of "Rave the Land Rovers Workshop Manuals" is also included both will be needed at some time...

You'll also need access to a laptop preferably with a serial port, but adaptors for usb to serial port are available
