Hi all..just bought a very good condition 2006 freelander from a friend.i bought it knowing it had a small problem somwhere underneath..The vc had seized on it with him..so he changed the rear diff.and vc and the 2 bearings either side of the vc.The car still has bearing noise from somewhere am i right i thinking that the only thing left is the transfer box?The noise is still there when the car is taken out of gear.Ive looked through the threads and i dont think anyone mentions the noise been there out of gear.thanks

Thanks for your quick reply !
Its always there in neutral with or without clutch.
Ive never owned a 4x4 before so not sure how or if there are any 'normal noises'

No.stays the same
Its noy really bad.sounds like a wheelnearing noise.but its obviously not a wheel bearing its coming from underneath somwhere

If it’s always there, whether clutch depressed or not, then you should be checking alternator brgs, steering pump brgs, and the auxiliary belts tensioner brgs. Also check the crankshaft damper pulley

Cheers freelance..knowing the guy who owned it befor me,i dont think they would be tge cheao ones...im going to get my other car out of the garage and have a good look round it.
Im more enclind to think its the ird bearings..but i dont know enough about the car yet.

So..took of the entire prop and had a look at the new bearings and one is grumbling..they do look new .
Thought id check the ird oil level and guess what..yup stripped the head..wot a pile of crap..and yes i did check the threads on here before stripping it..lol
Going to order a new bearing now from somwhere
