New owner p38 4.0

Hi guys,

Hows it going? I have just picked up my first range rover a 1997 p38 4.0.

It was very cheap but has stacks of service history, I mainly got it to tow my speedboat, my other car is a mercedes s500 but I have fell in love with the rangie, the driving position is quite something!

Basically I have a few issue that I would like to sort out - not critical as such but just annoying, and I am sure expensive to rectify, but here goes!

1) factory stereo does nothing but illuminate what seems like every segment of its display when turned on...

2) Both drivers door and tailgate are shown on message centre as being open when closed, annoying bong every time you stop also due to this!

The radio sounds like its had it and as for the doors does the interior light stay on? Might just be the switches

thanks for a quick reply gfromleeds, yes the interior light does stay on- the bulb has been taken out so battery doesnt go flat - any ideas on how to get to the switches?

The switches are inside the door lock mechanisms. On the drivers door it is easiest to replace the entire assembly, preferably with a new one from LR as the microswitches are not available seperately and the mechanism has to be stripped to it's components to get at the switch. I believe the tailgate lock mech is similar, but have heard of the switch being adjusted, worth a go at removing it and seeing what you can do, else replace that also.
