well it has 81k on it and is in great shape. it just had the air springs removed and regular springs put in. the man that had it b4 me did it because he had some problems wit it and it was much easer and cheper to do that than to put up wit the BS prob.that they have. so he said. anyway just wanted to know what else could be a prob. with it as i do not know much about them. thanks for the help :D

I've just bought a 2000 DHSE 90K on the clock, :Dat least the liners don't slip in a diesel! From looking at this site it would be easier to ask what does not go wrong::eek:
Enjoy, hope your'e handy with a DVM and a spanner LOL

if you want to know what WILL go wrong with a p38 the stand about 20 yards away and point your finger in the direction of your car, now thats the bit(s) that will go wrong!!

WELL ........ on mine,

Coolant leak made engine go pop. new liners and engine rebuild

New camshaft went after 1400 miles

Condensor leaks. replaced twice.

O rings on heater matrix went

Gearbox went. Apparently forward clutch exploded. Newly rebuilt Gearbox

Battery packed up due to drain from recierver. Now replaced

Anyone wanna buy it???

removing the eas to put normal springs on is like buying a sports car then having a 1.0 engine in  the conversion is how much? and fixing the eas aint that expensive unless its been neglected? they all have there probs. but if ya keep on top of them they aint that bad and there a great drive with a working eas system..its when you let them go and end up with a problem here and a problem there, then its starts costing more..like any car really but with a few more gadgets...

All those that listed their probs, do you have a 99 model onwards?
One thing I have noticed in here, is that alot of the probs are 94-98 cars. Changes were made in 99...
Is the later model engine more reliable?
To be honest, I was so put off buy all the potential problems I backed out of a purchase of a 99 P38 with 84k. However, it's just become available again, hmmm ;-)

I see lots of P38's driving about, I also see a few locally that don't move off driveways lol.

Just trawl through the posts on the forum over the last say, ten pages. The majority of which are related to suspension problems which have been discussed many, many times. The others relate to engine and electrical/electronic problems most of which require the use of diagnostics to find, identify and eventually clear the fault. There are posts which relate to purely mechanical which are straightforward if you have RAVE (Workshop manual). That said, the P38 is something you have to keep on top of irregardless of the year or model-neglect it at your peril!!!!

lots of things, but look at what the car cost new and what you paid for it, plus side parts are generally reasonable:welcome2:

mines a 2000 vogue,it,s had head gaskets new thermostat nearly all the eas replaced, heater o rings, steering pipe, the list goes on,total to date about £1500 in 6 months

well with all this i think i may sell it. i here parts are expensive (im in the us) and dont make a lot of money. but i can fix just about anything as long as the parts are inexpensive. but i dont do tranny work autos anyway. if i keep it i gess ill find out. also whats all this p38,vogue and so on. it dont say anything like that on it. please inform me on this.

I'm in Ireland, not too many parts sources apart from main stealers. Spurious parts are available from the UK and they tend to charge by weight for shipping, as a result, I keep a stock of common parts, gaskets, oil seals, plugs etc. Unexpected parts I get sent over. Have a look at Paddocks, Craddocks and Rimmer Bros.
