Oh and just incase i don't get instructions how do I use the software,obviously I load the laptop up with the software but do I have ignition on when plugging in etc.

If the software you bought is the RSW solutions EAS software, it does work on Win 7 both 32 and 64 bit versions, it runs under Microsoft Netframework which you may have to download. The usual problem with Vista and Win 7 is the drivers for USB to serial adaptors:)

Good luck! I bought a P38 with suspension problems and have managed to solve them all by being methodical and taking lots of advice from Datatek!

My Rangie is sorted now and is used as my tow vehicle for my horse trailer - I love it! I hope you feel the same way about yours once it's working properly!
 
I like it already!!! Cheers for the help chaps,I have been on many a car forum(I have had mny a car) and this has to be 1 of the most helpfull and very quick replies. I have purchased a lead that plugs into a seriel port(not usb) and I have 1 of those on my laptop so happy days:)

Those leads actually incorporate a USB to serial convertor since the EAS requires data and control that is not directly compatable with USB. As long as it comes with the correct drivers you should be OK, but don't be surprised if you have to work at getting it to communicate:)
 
Hello Stu,how very scary to find you on here!!! I am not looking forward to tomorrow as I can't predict what my suspension will do on the A3.

Datatek I have used 1 of these after market diagnostic software things before(Alfadiag,clearly for Alfas) and that always took a few attempts at connecting,normally taking the lead out and trying again. A friend of mine today who until recently had a P38 said of the diagnostic software that it would ask for a setting for each corner and it is massively important to get this right,is he right? and if so what are the figures I am looking for?

If it's the RSW sosftware, it will not ask you for anything, it will display the current heights if asked in the appropriate tab and recall the current setiings in the calibrate tab which you can then adjust within a limited range, go too far and the software will report "out of range"
Do a search for the heights, they have been published many times.:)
It is of course important that the heights are correctly set, it affects handling, get them wrong and your car will look like the costa concordia.

The software is designed to work through a serial port. Which it does with ease, providing you have Netframework installed, the problem comes getting your operating system to work with the usb adaptor. I have never been able to get my usb Acer working, but not tried very hard because i have an old serial Dell that works first time every time. Now i have a Nanocom so don't need either.
 
I found that whenever I got stuck with eas fault it went away for a while if I took the battery off, it cleared the fault anyway so if your system is faultless as the seller said then taking the battery off for a while should sort it for you,
since I got my eas software I have never needed it! typical!!! I changed the timer relay and it cured everything, but yours sounds a bit like a dodgy height sensor, but if I had your problem I'd still try the battery off and see if that makes a difference, worth a try!
 
Hello,I now have the lead and software. I have heard about taking the battery off sp shall try that too. I have tried clearing the fault several times on it remains,the faults seem to change everytime so I am very confused as to what is going on,results as follows....

Attempt 1.
0:FL signal incorrect
6:Target heights incorrect
7:Vehicle has moved

Attempt 2.
0:FL signal incorrect
2:FR signal incorrect

Attempt 3.
0:FL signal incorrect
1:Vehicle speed fault
7:Vehicle has moved

Attempt 4.
FL signal incorrect

At this point after the fault still wouldn't clear and all 4 suspension lights were still on I was about to give up and report it on the forum but then started her up again and no fault,and normal height light on,was just about to try the suspension and the bloody fault came back on as did all 4 lights!!! So I carried on...

Attempt 5.
0:FL signal incorrect

Attempt 6.
6:RR signal incorrect
7.F8.128 hidden

Attempt 7.
0:FL signal incorrect
0:Cannot lower FL

Attempt 8.
0:FL Signal incorrect

Nothing like being thorough eh?

So what do I do next?

Yeah that is what is coming up alot,but where is the sensor and what am I looking for? Do I just presume that it is knackered and replace it or does it need cleaning,moving,adjusting? Is there anything that needs adjusting using this software? What confuses me is why the fault changes.

You are looking for a sensor bolted to the chassis connected to the front left hand radius arm by an articulated coupling. Check the plug connections to it for corrosion. Clean them, try that.
 
Thank you matey,football day today and have to fit new track rod ends on my van tomorrow but hoping to have a look at them after that.Also I hear it is a good idea to check and clean the connectors on the EAS ECU,under the passenger seat?

Bad electrical connections are a very high percentage indeed of the P38s troubles.
 
Not sure what age your Rangie is but I believe on the later models (post 99) that the sensors can be swapped from offside to nearside.this would let you see if the fault follows the sensor.
Wammers will confirm.
 
1996 i'm afraid,although I have heard that with the ones I have I can swap them over if I chenge pins round?
