Help,

First time Defender 90 TDI (1994) owner.
Any advice on intial service/checks that I should be doing.
110,000 miles covered.
Serviced by Land Rover up to 75,000 including cambelt change.
Just passed MOT but no service done.
Is it worth using trusted local garage for first full service? Or get stuck in and have a bash myself!

Any advice welcome.

Think I may have been bitten by the Landy bug! Never giggled before driving a motor!

Buy a Haynes manual, that will tell you the basics. Have a read through and depending on your experience and mechanic skills, that should give you a good idea whether or not to attempt any maintenance. Personally I would get the Timing belt changed straight away though, regardless.

Agree 100%. You can't beat doing it yourself and a good read of the manual beforehand lets you know what you are in for.
Again I agree about the timing belt, unless you are happy with the age & mileage when it was replaced (you mention the mileage but not when it was done) I would always get it done again. I did mine the year before last (first belt from new) and it was a good job to get stuck into. I bought the proper tools (Difflock locking pin & extractor set, crankshaft locking tool etc) and it was a pleasent & straightforward operation. When doing it you also get to replace the coolant which is another job to tick off the list.

Give it a go yourself the satisfaction that you have done it your self is amazing and with the good folks on here you will gain confidence and also save yourself all that money and KNOW that its been done properly
Good luck
Regards Gary
