I've got a copy of the 1987 parts book for the 110 and it only shows a handbrake warning light switch fitted to Australian models - does this help?

The plot thickens! lol. It must be an add on surely? Can anyone who HASN'T got one fitted at around 87 say so? or anyone who has had an mot under the new rules who hasn't got one fitted, did it pass?? I need to get to the bottom of this before my MOT. Thanks in advance.

My mistake. I don`t have a warning light for the hand brake. Had the mot yesterday ( saturday ) and it didn`t fail on that

Mine must have been added at a later date then. My landy is a bit of a mix up of new and old though so it was probably not there as standard in 1985!!

the hand brake light can be easily retro fitted by getting the correct bracket and hand brake lever then running the wires if they are not already there, I do belive LR sell the kit to do it, Mine is a 89 LR90 and has no Hand brake light not the parts for it and Im sure I dont have the light on my dash. TBH Im not sure if i would want one either as its some thing else to fail on lol,

As for the trailer sockets cheers for reminding me about the fog light too lol.

Just what I was going to say. Don't forget that all Land Rovers were designed to be sold in different markets with different legal requirements. If they knew that they'd have to have one in a foreign market then it would be a lot cheaper to make one dash rather than two. Stop worrying, you can't be failed for something that wasn't fitted, therefore wasn't a legal requirement when the vehicle was built.

:D

I have an 87 90 truck cab and I have a light for the handbrake. The tow bar electrics are testable but I dont think failable, had mine done yesterday and the fog light isnt wired up. He just told me about it. Mine failed on track rod end rubber boots though

It must all depend on what type you have, mine started out as a pick up, and was basically a farm vehicle, so I bet Land Rover never bothered with a handbrake light, doesn't bother me though, less to go wrong :D

preety sure most of the new mot regs only apply to newer cars

Probably true, I suppose you can test a newer car warning lights with an ecu by just plugging it in to a machine, the only way you can tell is either (for example) draining the fuel and seeing if the light pops up, or even short the cable, and I can't see an MOT garage doing either of them

got my 1990 110 motd last week
had it checked before hand and was told that the fog light warning light was not working and could fail on this
replaced the offending part and it passed all ok
seemed a bit picky but maybe its the new regs
