Just had a call from garage to say my Defender will not pass MOT as one of the headlight adjuster motors is not working even though the headlights are fine and passed the beam test, the motor was seized and buzzing when I bought the landy 12 years ago so I just took it off as I never use them (who does), it passed every mot without comment until last year when it was put down as an advisory but the garage says that the new rules from this year say if fitted from new they must work, if I had known that I would have got one off ebay before the MOT.
I have asked them to get one and fit it for me, which they will do but wont be until Monday now, he told me he wont register it as a fail and it will be a pass when he fits it. I have a lone car from them as well so great service.

How could he fail it then ?

It wasn't there ...

It has a adjuster switch on the dash panel, only one headlight moves when adjusting the switch. The motor is still on one headlight but not the other. If system originally fitted from new it has to work, so I have been informed.

It has not failed, he phoned me to say it would not pass the new rules, he has not registered a fail on the computerised sytem and will sort it and register a pass.
Its the same as the EGR and CAT, if the car was delivered from factory with them from new they have to be on and working at MOT now. (Which I did know about and had refitted both, but was not aware of the headlight levelling adjuster)
