Good evening. Just purchased my first Land Rover. 1974 Series 3 LWB 2.6 Petrol.
Doesn't run at the moment, but hoping it will once I've had a few hours playing under the bonnet.
Massive success tonight. Had zero compression in four of the cylinders, but discovered that the tappets were down super tight. Very surprised that they could be so tight as to cause complete loss of pressure, but now that they are adjusted correctly , I have about 8 bar.

Needs a clean. And a new silencer. And a new radiator. And, I suspect, some other new bits.

Believe the engine is from a Rover P4, so non-original, but who cares?

And I got a spare engine with it (under the grab bag).
the 2.6 IOE was an option for the series and is a derivative of the unit used in the P4 rather rare in the series, different bulkhead etc.

It has an F head as i'm sure you're aware, it had a reputation for fragility and thirst, but to be honest so long as you maintain them they're a good unit.

They certainly like a drink
