Hi folks, just a brief intro, hi to all. I had range rovers for over 20 years until about 15 years ago, all V8's & stick shift. Now living in France for 10 years & just got hold of a 1994 300tdi auto with head gasget blown. Car has 450000 km on the clock & service history since it was born, 3 owners. Chassis is like new as are the sills, bulkhead & floor. Bit of rust in rear body X member & light rusting on rear floor seams, otherwise all is as new. I moved here from Wootton Bassett, Swindon where I was in international transport for almost 30 years. Now into plant hire, but retire aug 2014.......maybe!!

Hi, we are in the Poitau Charente region in the south of the Vienne, mid way between Poitiers & Angouleme, 50km to each. Great place to be, very rural, almost no crime, no screaming sirens, no traffic except for tractors. Household running costs here are cheaper than UK, rates etc, renovation is easy, not hounded by building inspectors & the like, but working here can be an expensive hobby if you declare too much income, keep it below 12K. (on paper of course)
You get a lot more house for your bucks here. The french love 4x4 but many cant afford them, every enthusiasts dream seems to be anything made in Solihul.:cool2:

Charente-Maritime is our favourite area :) we're planning to go when the kids are both over 18 and away at uni.

Have holidayed over there for the last 10 years and love it (but realistically realise that we were on holiday so had rose tinted specs), so doing lots of research.
