Well, I guess this groups standards aren't too high since I've been accepted. So good deal!
I'm the recent purchaser of a 1997 Disco 1 across the way in Arizona. Never have owned a Land Rover, but have always been drawn to unique vehicles. Already have a stack of Disco questions to be thrown out to the "experts" around here.
Born and raised in Montana, I am an Englishman / Irishman in heritage.
My ancestral roots (Grandmother) come from the around the Burnley, Lancashire, England area to the US in 1905 or so. My Father (B-24 Navigator) visited relatives in England while stationed at Attlebridge Airfield during WW2. All other family members came from Ireland / England before recorded history.
In any event thanks for admission to the group and I'm looking forward to gaining some knowledge about Land Rovers.

Welcome .... Yank:p;)
Think I found a picture of ya........

Welcome from me too. Nice intro.
As already demonstrated by @Thor 1950 we have all the nuts we need for christmas.. :p
Don't forget to put some pics up when you get a minute. :)

This is my first Land Rover. I've owned numerous unique vehicles since I was a kid.
Luckily I started life as an auto mechanic so have never been a slave to the repair shops....only under duress.
We spend Winters in the desert SW of Arizona...perfect Winter weather...dry and temps in at least the 60's - 70's every day.
Sunny days average 335 days per year. A far cry from your climate on the isles.

Yep no rust or salt in AZ, let alone tin worms. How many miles on the beast and what engine in that silver streak

She's reading 150k miles so has not been a garage queen. Looking it over I doubt if it has seen many off road miles. First owner racked up 50k miles....Second owner ran it up to 150k miles. With that mileage I'm fairly sure all "show room bugs" have been worked out.
It has the little 4.0 liter V-8. Runs great, nice and quiet.
Body shows no damage anywhere, but paint fading on roof...nice "patina" as far as I'm concerned.
Rear sunroof was all crooked / cock-eyed and stuck in the "vent" position. The former owner said he could not correct it.
I messed around with it a couple hours yesterday...and a couple hours today and had it closed and functioning.
Remounted the starter heat shield today (it was laying loose against frame / starter, can't believe it didn't short out and burn her up) ,
tightened quite a few loose screws / bolts....fixed the passenger sun visor which was dangling down....generally crawled around underneath searching for issues.
The windows all operate up / down, but the passenger window sounds a bit scary when in operation....kinda like a monkey shaking a can full of rocks...lol
One headlight "washer tower" was broke off / missing, but found an eBay replacement last night for $15.00.
So far so good!
