It's a bit of a dark art tbh. The easiest way is to download something like GB Maps or OS Maps for your phone. You might have to pay for the maps, but they are pretty cheap. You'll want to ensure you ca download the map to the device, so that it'll work when you have no signal.

The one I use on my iPhone and iPad is called Outdoors GPS. It uses OS Maps however. You'll need to brush up on the key for the maps, but look out for ORPA (Other routes with Public Access), country roads and BOATs (Byway Open to All Traffic). This will at least allow you to find where lanes should be. However you'll need to check to see if there is a Traffic Restriction Order on the lane, i.e. meaning if it is open or if it is closed and illegal to drive it. This can be challenging and there is no single place to find this info out. Although I personally feel if the local authority hasn't bothered putting up a sign to say it is restricted and it is otherwise signed as a permissible route, then that should be a sufficient defence in my opinion.

You could join Glass which has an online mapping system with local reports and known TRO's. Very handy, but something you'd want to check before getting to the lanes as there is no offline version.

You could also look to join a local 4x4/Land Rover club, they will often have good knowledge of local lanes and may even organise runs out.

Laning on your own has potential risks. While remembering a lane is a ROAD, it is possible to get stuck on them or breakdown. And if you have no means of recovery and maybe no phone signal, it could be quite a problem to solve.

On this note, ensure you have proper recovery equipment like a kinetic rope, shackles and good recovery points on both ends of the vehicle. I would also advise the minimum of some All Terrain tyres too, unless you know the lane well.

I like old fashioned paper OS maps, you can see everything in front of you, plan your route and mark it out with a highlighter. If in doubt, check at the town hall and as previously said plan to get stuck or broken down, just don't try to get stuck as you'll end up damaging the lane and upsetting people
