Hi All,

Just a quick introduction of myself and my vehicle.

Me:

First time Landrover owner.. long time Landrover fan.

Vehicle:

1996 Defender 90 300tdi, white, 130,000 KM, LHD (I live in Hungary), new chassis, full roof rack and rear ladder, Michelin off road tyres.

Amazing vehicle but we have had quite a few teething problems since we met!

I bought it with no knowledge of what service history it had so the first thing was to get it checked out and get it a basic service.

Work done on initial service was:

oil service (engine,gearbox,differetial)
air filter change
fuel filter change
EGR valve change
Connecting rod change (steering)
electricity work

Parts changed:

oil filter
air filter
fuel filter
motor oil castrol 5W40 SLX (7ltrs.)
gearbox oil mobil1 SHC (8ltrs.)
seals/gasket
ball joint (steering)
light switcher
reverse lamp switcher
EGR valve
connecting rod (steering)
pipe
relay
service materials

There are still some electrical problems, starting issues and most concerning is hard to describe high pitched noise from engine/gear box area that kicks in when driving above 60 KMhr!

Have just changed the battery for a new 90Ah.

Battery definately needed changed but starting problems still here.

Have new NGK glow plugs ready for fitting and will start septate thread or join existing to discuss starting problems fully. Huge amounts of smoke on starting and extremely difficult in the cold weather to get it started. Have already seen some good advice in forums re air in fuel pipes so will go though all these first.

New timing belt and mod kit purchased from DLS so expect fitting in Jan 2011.

Front footwell water ingress after heavy rain but sure from where.

5 or 6 random cut holes 1-3 cms wide in basin behind front seats that need sealed!!

Etc etc etc....

Have made it a goal for 2011 to get it running as well as possible and use it!

I have limited off road and even less mechanical experience so will be using the forum and LandyZone for advice, support and getting involved with the community.

Cheers

Graham
