I wany y'all to be very kind to a new member from way up here in Haggis-Land, WULLBAR.

He needs careful looking after - he's only about six foot four both ways, sort of delicate like.:D

He does TWO wheels as well as four. :eek:

He sold me a set of Disco wheels and tyres a while back. Good deal too.

He's about to fit an EGR blanking kit to his Disco. Does anyone know anything about that job ???? ;)

Yup, done mine ... ;)

's easy.

When I first did it I was a bit wary, so all I did was undo the egr unit, slid the blanking plate in and bolted it all on again. Disconnected the electrical connection and tucked it away, then just ran it like that to see what the difference was. Immediately it didn't feel too different, but mpg improved by about 10% ... went from about 25/28 mpg average to 30/32 with no real power gains.

Forgot about it .....

About a year later I saw something that reminded me of it so looked again and thought it's all working so I'll remove egr completely and add a non-egr top air inlet hose. This time no increase in fuel, but a noticeable increase in power .. indeed for a while it was drinking diesel at about 20/22 mpg !! But that was me, booting it, hooking up the inside rear tyre and 'playing' at every roundabout etc ... ;)

Since then I've settled down, mpg's are back to around 30 but power is now there as and when I want it. OK, it's not a rocketship, but it does make a big difference.

When I also fitted a non-cat exhaust I went through same thing, increased power again, playing again, but now it really is a lot faster and more powerful, useful power and torqueier than before, with same mpg's, if not better, so win-win.

I'll take a few pics of the thing with the egr just dropped in so he can see what is removed, if you like.
 
i did mine myself easy it was trust me and got same result as paul my de cat pipe is on its way so hopefully this will be better still oh and im fitting new turbo pipes mine are real soft

OK, first pic is of the bits removed, complete egr system ... if anyone wants one cheap, was working when I removed it ... ;)

This is with the system just placed back roughly where it was. The electrical connection, when removed is just tucked away between the airbox and inner wing. The vacuum hose has a golf tee in it, dunno if it does anything, but it seemed a good idea to blank it off!

As the engine bay looks with it removed. The top hose from the intercooler to the plenum is about 10% greater in cross-sectional area (we measured it, can't remember size, just remember %age) and is a stiffer hose than the two connector hoses that were removed. I think this larger volume allows better breathing ... :)

I've done the DE-EGR & De-Cat thing on my '98 Tdi300 auto Disco and had similar results to others - initial giddyness replaced by sensible driving and better mpg.

However, I recently replaced the exhaust sytem from the downpipe back, with a "TDi300 Performance exhaust" from Paddocks and the improvements just took one further step forward. Cost £35+vat and a 'little' more noise but when you need to get out of a side road or similar demand for imediate response - she goes, yes she really does go, quite surprisingly well actually.

Wullbar's Disco is a TD5!

Yours looks like a 300tdi more like.

But I bet he gets the idea - rip it off, bin it, and fit the straight through parts.

I said if he felt VERY enthusiastic he could take the inlet manifold off and clean out two pounds of filthy black crap.

I might do mine one day.

Heheheh well yeah, I have a 300 Tdi, and it wasn't mentioned what Wullbar had ... ;)

I also forgot to mention the cleaning out of the plenum and intercooler .. hell of a sh1tty mess, so well worth cleaning while you're messing about.

Hope he has fun doing it, and enjoying the benefits afterwards ... ;)

From the Marmite website ... the mind boggles at the possiblities!

In the UK, you can also buy crunchy wholemeal biscuits flavoured with Marmite. They are made by Fudges bakery of Dorset and can now be bought online at Provender Delicatessen.

In some neighborhoods it is (apparently!) common for nursing mothers to dab a little on their nipples before feeding their infants.

There are reports that some balding men have tried smearing Marmite on their heads to promote hair growth. No assessment of whether it works, however.

You think thats bad?I used to live on the front of a plant nusery where the boss was so cheap that he bought the "slag" from the bovril factory and had us burn that in the boiler furnaces!Lets just say when foot n mouth caused all those cows to be burned I knew what to expect!:bolt:

Charles, You obviously don't live in the country, Marmites are beautiful little furry creatures a bit like field mice but darker brown.

They are very sociable but sometimes throw wild parties with lots of heavy drumming music, all through the night.

I've had to speak to them on occasions but most of the time it's peaceful existance.

Oh I live in the countryside all right - smallholding - and plenty of mice here!

I had one right up on my desk just last week munching way on a digestive biscuit!

So I shot it with an air pistol. Put a blooming dent in my desktop!

Bloody cheek ... eating MY biscuits!

I decide what lives, flies and dies around these parts.

But I am not so cruel and heartless as to feed MARMITE to the wee brutes!

Hiya Charles, I had to just laugh out loud at the picture of you shooting a mouse and denting your desk, :D:D:D "the cheeky little bugger was eating my biscuit!!" Just excellent.

However, I still say you've not seen our Marmites or you would know that if/when they turn ugly, a mouse wouldn't stand a chance.

Big yellow buck-teeth, an evil grin..................and fantastic rythmn on a snare drum :D:D:D
