Hi all and thank you for the welcome.

One of my first jobs was to remove the 6 cd changer under my seat to give it a check over as the head unit says "no cartridge" but I know thats a porky. So having checked a few comments went about my task to remove the driver seat to gain easy access to the changer box....... my first fall..... why would I expect it to be easy....my second fall ... but in truth not my "bad" I love my disco but why oh why did they need to fit anti-theft security bolts to the four holding points to the seat ! I pride myself with a lifetimes collection of sockets and spanners, ratchets and even elbow ratchets and even a very expensive set of torx key-in keys but I have never seen torx head bolts before!

Someone at LR must have chuckled as they fitted the seats to many many LR's ,
but undeterred I went to Screwfix,,nope , even Toolstation, nope so a call to Halfords and yippeedoo the do a set , £20 quid lighter I can now undo my seats..

Watch this space ... there might be a cd changer for sale !

Hi all and thank you for the welcome.

I love my disco but why oh why did they need to fit anti-theft security bolts to the four holding points to the seat ! That's one lesson learned. But LR don't use anti-theft security security bolts anywhere on the Disco .... just a load of Torx headed bolts; which incidentally are in the mainstream of motor vehicle fixings these days.

You're wasting your money on the old LR changers. I had the same problem back in 2001/02 on my first Disco. Spent two lots of £50 putting it right. Never rlasted more than six weeks.

When I got my current Disco, ripped the changer out straight away and fitted an ipod compatilbe head unit. This is not the aux type as all the wiring is through the back of the unit and the ipod is in the cubby box - no bits hanging out of the front. End result is direct control of the ipod from the head unit/remote and 4,500 tracks available - not 60 on six discs.

You can pick up 30gb ipods for £20/30 on ebay. Buy one and leave it in there. We've got six, my Disco, SWMBO's Avensis, garage attached to surround sound, living room attached to surround sound, bathroom and mountain bike.

Toolwise, buy the tools you need for each job and you'll have them ready for next time.
