Saturdays job was as per the title stick in 6 new injectors to cure a slightly lumpy idle form cold which was only really noticeable when the external temp was lower, also when booted it smoked quite a bit but only noticeable at night in the following cars headlights.

Drivers side access not easy but not to sad, passenger side front two same as drivers side, passenger side rear one what a tosser, in fact it took me as long to do the other five as it did that one injector.

One extended test drive shows the idle issue seems to be cured, the engine certainly runs and responds better, seems to pull harder as well and has a growl under heavy load which wasnt there before.

So pleased with myself, until I pulled up alongside a truck this morning and thought bloody hell that trucks exhaust stinks of diesel, then the thought crossed my mind, maybe its me? of course not cant be:rolleyes: started studying the rear view mirror and to my horror I was laying down a smoke screen a battle ship would have been proud of!
Got it home, bonnet up and one of the leak off pipes had popped off, refittted pipe and a new retaning clip and all appears to be good, will see on the way to work later.

Defo a diy driveway job and nowt to be afraid of, apart from the price:(

Had similar thing on my D1.
Nearest thing I have ever had to a breakdown.
Smell of diesel at motorway pay barrier, ignored it first time, though some rough old lorry had dumped some on the ground.
Second time investigated it oops, return pipe had popped off one of the injectors, changed it once I bought some new from Norauto.
Had fright though, which is why I am mentioning all this.
Parked on a bit of a slope, put the handbrake on went to go out, once my foot was off the footbrake the car started to move. Caught it just in time. Diesel had gone under the vehicle and at motorway speed had not only coated the rear of the car but also got inside the parking brake drum!
Don't know if this is possible on a D3 but you may want to check!

Handbrake shoes are inside the rear discs so well out of the way.

On the D3/4 the diesel return pipe is one long ( 4 odd feet long) moulded affair and costs over 100 quid, so Im hoping I have not shagged it!

Know not much about D3/4s. But do vaguely remember summat about handbrake release mechanisms being a pain. Don't know if this is on your vehicle. But would make sense with handbrake pads being in the rest of the brake mechanism somewhere.
Anyway, glad you're sorted. If the return pipe is anything like the old style pipe it probably just means you've lost some diesel and the white smoke could be the diesel that was being lost having sprayed on the exhaust.
Anyway, crossed fingers!

The main reason D3/4 EPB electronic park brakes are troublesome is people dont service or adjust them until its to late, then the actuator assembly ( the expensive bit) over extends itself and either jams or breaks, all for an easy adjustment over year or two.

Yes all the leaking diesel was deposited straight onto the top of the trubocharger!

plus 1, if there not maintained / cleaned out

Stopped for fuel last night and smoke was billowing form under the bonnet, wonder whta the staff were thinking!
Anyway so much smoke thought sod it Im not putting 100 quid in it if its going to burn, so carried on, 2 miles later much less smoke and today no smoke at all, so must have been a pocket of derv that got hot enough to boil after about 3/4 miles.

Back to the car, I have noticed the following,
1, it has more power and really gets going as the revs pile on.
2, the gearbox is much much smoother and has not been this smooth in the 4.5 yrs I have owned the car.
3, it starts immediately, literally as you flick the key shes running.
4, the engine appears to be quieter at idle.

Happy for you!

Were they new or re-con injectors you fitted?

John, new from Maltings Land Rover, they advertise on ebay 6 for 1250 rung them up and they were 1190 delivered.

I have seen recon ones for sale for half that price, but Im led to believe you cannot get parts for them so suspect people are just cleaning and then resetting the pressures, how long they will last is anyones guess, which is why I went for new.

There are some vids on youtube of people adjusting the pressure/spray pattern.
