I’ve recently cleaned painted my hubs and changed the bearings with Timken bearings and new seals to find that they don’t slide over the stub axel!

Stub axle is nearly 0.5 mm bigger than the bearings!

Has anyone had problems with this in the past?

thanks

Depends on which year and 88/109

pre 1980 has 2 different sized bearings and after that they were two the same size I think.

I’ve checked my hubs and I appear to have correct bearings at the rear inner

but they still won’t fit tight to the back plate

They can’t be right bearings as they don’t fit deep enough in the hub

As above up to June 80 same front and rear 88 , not sure about military, I know there are various stub axles and if they got changed for a different model/ year it could make ordereing correct part hard
I was going to change one of mine but then found out it was the rare expensive one so on it stayed!

I think they are pretty much all the same size till they go metric the only difference is that some have a ring and others have it as part of the stub. Got a series 2 1960 hub and a 1978 and they're both the same.....both 109 it has to be said.

Your vehicle axle could also have been changed.
Some actual bearing numbers in this pdf awhile since I did it so not sure if both types in there.
