In the way jobs seem to get bigger, changing my drum brakes has grown into needing a new hub. Unfortunately I couldn't find the axle number anywhere so had to ring customer support. Based on the reg number they identified the part as RUB500240, but I was suspicious since I don't know if the axle has even been swapped out by a previous owner.

New part arrived and looks quite different to the exiting part. See photos below. The new part is wider in diameter and slightly shorter in length. I'm assuming I can't fit this part if for no other reason than the opposite side's hub isn't the same and so not balanced, but you chaps know more than me.

Any ideas on the original's part number?

Originally my intention was to change the hub seals since the drums had evidence of oil leakage. This is why I ended up in there and though while where I might as well change the bearings since at least one wheel had reports in the part of minor play. When I removed the bearings I found the following (see image link below) damage to the hub. I made the assumption that I needed a new hub based on this; but given the shenanigans above and while I have your attention, am I right in thinking this?

Thanks as ever, Ben

I would say that hub will clean up fine. Just a few over zealous removal marks;).
Can you see any numbers on the old bearing and seal then order as per that.

What would you suggest for refurbing the original? Light filling to remove big burs and then a run down with some scotch pad?

Just clean any burs but don't get aggressive with it. Only worry about bits that protrude into any of the faces, might be difficult to get a file in so you may have to do it with emery slowly. (sat in the garden with a beer on a sunny day:))
then a clean with a scotch pad or fine emery then a good cleaning fluid to get rid of any filings/dust. Should be fine:).

Might just be the photos but looks like the wrong hub to me. New one is for disc brakes. You need part number FRC6141 for drum brake hub (if you want a new hub)
