been a while since I sold the 3.9 disco and picked up a freelander 1 1.8 1999 but it has a clicking on steering low to med speed, thinking drive shaft any suggestions? also clutch seems to bite really low and catches going into 5th is it likely to be control linkage? doesn't slip at all.....

Clicking could be many things, from cheap and easy. To really expensive and less easy to sort.

Have you done the one wheel up test? That's a must with any Freelander, especially a pre 2000 model.

The clutch is likely to be the clutch release lever bush seized up. This overloads the hydraulics and cracks the slave cylinder bracket. It needs sorting, before it brakes the slave, leaving you stranded. Lots of oil and WD40 worked onto the lever bush is what's needed there. Then check the slave bracket for cracking.
