New Engine Advice Wanted

Although I hear there's someone trying to get a TDV8 in their Defender I haven't heard of anyone trying it with a P38 yet, would give you the advantages of diesel and the power of petrol. Pricey tho and probably not a DIY job, unless you're very good with ECU's.

only Diesel ecu I found was a bosch diesel sport programable unit =££££££££££££££££££££.
Also there are people playing with them and alleged tdv8 running.
The issue is with the TDV8 removing and disabling the various linked features to engine ecu.

Maybe bbs guy or irish rover would know, I'd be interested-you may find the original ecu would need an additional computer to lie to it so it believed it was still in original vehicle.
Other methods of attack would be to find a dealer ecu map and dissemble it, could be that the different features are addressable -but you would also want an ecu dump to compare.
I'd love to investigate it if anyone would like to sponsor it £££££££££££££££

The engine ECU needs a "Handshake" to wake it up. Apart from the security aspect, the becm mainly controls the electrical side of the car..lights etc.
The engine ecu could probably be initialised by the becm, but obviously, you are looking at using the engine ecu that matches the engine, not attempting to make your existing ecu adapt to the later engine.
Could be easy to change but will need a few modification methinks, I would say not impossible.............unless someone knows different???????????????:behindsofa:

In a nutshell its buy a supercharged 4.2 for about 25k or a 3.6 TDv8 for about 30k or spend up to 10k re engining my p38 the only one I can really afford is the last but is it the best thing to do ??????

:eek:how much you could do it a lot cheaper.

Must admit I wouldn`t have a clue about even starting to cost the time involved in such an installation. Not like installing a carburettor petrol engine when your biggest headache is plumbing and routing a throttle cable.... When i were a lad....

was looking at 10 k to allow for ECU probs etc if I try the TDv8

More chips for Range Rover TDV8 (came up on google search)

So it is possible to download and upload ecu map. I would suggest an email to super chips, asking if they can map ecu as stand alone.
I would guess that the ecu is fully re programmable.

I'm guessing like the bcem and dealer kit-standard flash tools either partial flash or address limit on function.

I'd suggest you would want to know ecu make model etc and a ecu flash file to examine. Before Parting with serious Cash.

Sniff, it`s only `cause I`m peeling onions. Sniffle , honest. No emissions testing, just squirt fuel into the engine wiv a fairy-liquid bottle.
