They can keep it!
Give me my 17yr old L322 any day.
I've hired a car to head to London. Was supposed to be a Range Rover , instead they let me down and supplied this thing, a Discovery Sport HSE
The plus points:
It's nippy. Pulls away like one of those sporty little Corsas or such like.
Fuel tank doesn't cost much to fill. Only £52 from 71 mile range left.
It's all 'wired for sound'.
The flip side:
The leg room is also like one of those sporty little Corsas. Less than 45 miles into a 500 miles drive my knee, quad, and hamstring were already sore. Even the footrest is too close. So I'm resting my foot where the clutch pedal would usually be.
The cheap to fill fuel tank is because it is so small. Range of 332 miles when full.
Wired for sound and everything else is controlled from reading the centre dash. Which means taking eyes off the road if wanting to put heated seat ( note not seats) Instead of good old reach out and press a button , a la L322. No wonder no-one has their attention on the road any more. They have also missed a trick, with no heads up display similar to Volvo.
There is no height to the thing. I am sitting down amongst normal cars. Which it basically is.
So in summary
Don't buy one if you are over 5'6. Even if you have short legs, your arms will be uncomfortable. It's not comfortable to drive. You will pay a lot more for fuel if on a long journey, as you will have to refill at a m/way station. It has no road presence. It reacts like a sporty little car and sitting in it, I felt as if in a standard , average marque, car. It could be any saloon car, a Ford, a Skoda, a Vauxhall or similar. It most certainly does not feel like what is supposed to be a high marque 4x4.
I have told them to sort it. So tomorrow a Range Rover should turn up outside the house.
Right now all I can say is " I miss my Golden Girl"
