Just picked up a second hand Disco TD5 year 2000. Had it for 24 hours and it started mis firing and eventually became undrivable due to lack of power.

Got it to a local Landrover specialist who checked it out and they tell me it needs a new fuel pump. They also discovered oil in the wiring loom from the ECU to the engine. They cleaned the oil out the red plug connector and put it back together but said that was not the problem and it definitely needed a new fuel pump.

They have ordered one and it's due to go back in tomorrow, the funny thing is, the engine had dramatically improved since they cleaned the wiring loom, I am starting to think that all that it needs is a replacement loom and not a new pump at all. Just wanted a second opinion from you guys befoe I go back and part with £350.

Cheers

I've just had the same problem with mine changed the injector loom but it made no diffference so had to change the pump but it only cost me £75 for the part and I changed it myself, all you need is a couple of screw drivers and it's done.

The injector loom is about £50 I think so could be the cheaper option and if there's already oil there then it will need replacing soon anyway.

First of all replace the fuel filter, after that turn ignition to position 2 and listen in the boot to the sound of the pump.....it must wistle for about 30 seconds then stop. If the noise is pretty constant and doesnt sound too strange go to a testdrive and see what happens, maybe it's just a clogged filter.......anyway u have to eliminate the simple things before u spend big money

By the way...a genuine fuel pump is WFX000280 IN TANK FUEL PUMP ASSY TD5 | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series , and a joke to replace
