Hi just bought another Disco- an S reg V8 auto this time and am very happy with it...juuuust a couple of things niggling me though for now- i only got one key- this works in all the locks/ignition but the central locking isnt functioning at all. Also i didnt get a fob. I have a few old 300tdis kicking around in various states of disrepair so if i replace the green box (the one under the glovebox) with one from a 300tdi and use those fobs- will it work or will i fry summat? The car has an aftermarket immob fitted (for which i do have the fob)

The alarm prob been disabled hence no locking or fob.i dont no bout fitting another 1 out of a 300.but my alarm n immobiliser had to be bypassed due to it leaving me stranded.and take the fuse out.

If you look at the fuse box if same as 300 theres a row of 6 the 2 upright rows then 6 across top there should be a 10 amp and a 15 amp in 2 of the bottom row of 6 they are alarm.

If it was a direct replacement of a non functioning ECU for a function one then there shouldn't be any problems, but, if u can now start your vehicle with out one then ther must have been some additional wiring added.

The green box is a direct replacement, u will need the matching fobs.
If all you want is to add remote central locking then why not install a third party locking kit, simple to do and there's a few to choose from on eBay some are have also an alarm system.

Also it's easy to have an addition key cut.

to be honest- i just want to get her back to standard form.. i overlooked the locking issues when i got her because she was so solid and fell in love with that V8.. i just want eveything to work as it it should but am totally new to the V8s- must say, i have never enjoyed the drive to/from work so much before though!!!

If i replace the green box with one from a tdi, will i also need to replace the ring around the ignition key for the car to recognize the tdi fobs and start? the car currently has a 'eureka' immobiliser which is a right fag as it also disables the interior lighting and a fob which needs to waved about under the dash everytime i want to swtch it on. I only got one fob so keen on getting rid of this in case i lose it!

plot thickens- the cental locking works when the car is running/immobilised and so do the interior lights. i tried plugging a known good green fob reciever box and tried unlocking the car with the correct fobs (these from my everyday 300tdi) and got nothing. i reckon the immobilizr os to blame for this too so its gonna have to go! im assuming it was fitted in the first place due to a failed spider unit (would an S reg V8 auto even have one?) so will order a bypass plug if it does and set about undoing the mess!

sorry Discool but to be clear- the fob 'reader' around the ignition barrel is not specific to a particular fob like the green box is?

ECU and fobs must match ie. The same kit. 1996 to 1998MY V8s had a spider immobiliser when they left the factory.:)
TDi autos with edc don't have a spider.
