Every vehicle I've had this would be simple procedure, not with a P38  It was well jammed, nearly destroyed vice/solid bench (it's okay tho it wasn't mine) tighter than a wheel nut so in excess of 100nm easy and it's weakish alloy.
Laser hex plug survived undamaged
I had copper grease in an aerosol for this - it's like p**s, useless

Need to find what size torx bit opens the gearbox filler so can buy a single rather than £40 set for one job

Cornflakes is acceptable ;)
Yes i have had them like that. Just unscrew from front case, and have socket to fit nut, (I do) 3/4" wrenching bar in vice nut in socket then 1/2" wrenching bar with 17 mm Allen socket. Not a lot of trouble really with the correct tools. Light HMP grease on pivot Copaslip on cap threads and nip up. Your problem is now re-tightening big nut.
Copaslip is an assembly compound not a get it loose compound. ;):D:D

Yes the coppaslip was for re-assembly, the spray is like oil I needed the compound.
You have to cut the lip off arm to get anything substantial on it, no going back at that point
Put the big nut on first and tightened it all I could. It tightened more when screwing cap on, it is all tight and the fulcrum moves freely.
I emptied and refilled tensioner ram when I was there as as I left it on it's side and what little black stuff was in there drained out. Coppaslip on surfaces of moving parts also.
For the first time I can now hear my viscous really roar on startup!

And the next guy will say 'why is there a heart on this arm?' - coz your gonna love this f*****g job! :p

Cant say as I know the size, when I did mine last I just grabbed the one that fitted didn't look as to size
may be able to look tomorrow and report back.

Thankyou Grrrrr, much better than your last answer of 'a gigantic one' lol.
Guy in shop said he will order me a single if I can find the name/size. Apparently blue tack imprints are no good

By the way, a MOSFET is the electronic version of a relay, low power signal in and big power out to drive lights and so forth.

MOSFET Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor, formerly fragile devices used for their low voltage drop in the on state. They seem reliable these days, I never liked them, too higher failure rate in my day, always used BiPolar devices.

Can't be too big a power out - my lights are pretty pathetic compared to other Landies I've had ;):p

My P38 is a bipolar device for sure :D

Try cleaning the lenses. I did and was amazed at the difference! Mine are plenty good enough, although not as impressive as my Miggy ones were. I used to worry about them melting the Tarmac.

Some people put Nightbreakers in.

My defenders were like flood lamps, light up anything crystal clear in pitch black. My P38 ones are dim yellow, much same as the sidelights. Can't see very far on road at night.

Will try some toothpaste on insides of lenses, and better bulbs if need be. main headlight not up to par

Toothpaste is OK on the lenses but don't try it on the reflectors:eek: I have cleaned sealed headlights with a warm water bio washing powder mix rolled around inside followed by a rinse with distilled water. Not sure if it would work on the P38 headlights, I might try it on a spare one.

@RangeRoller dt
t55 torx bit a set might be better as torx are being use a lot more on motors now

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!
You are a saint, you've just saved me atleast £35 :)

Shouldn't need a set as only intend to ever have a P38 D. Female torx (e-bits) were hard to source and seem common to P38's, got a Sealey set cheap so should be okay for bits for now ;)

Old yellowed lights come up great with toothpaste, just scrub in every direction with an old toothbrush and rise thoroughly. You can rub it down with iso-propyl when dry and give it a clear côat of heat resistant lacquer - fills all the tiny scratches stops it coming back.

Distilled water should remove any residue so it stays clean, I would think you'd be fine

You talking about plastic lenses? They are glass on the P38, no plastic rubbish.
