land rover said in a later article that they were going to re-think the DC100 design, because it wasn't very popular in the USA, which is a big target audience this time.
 

I'm not so sure, I think the DC100 would be ok as an entry model fitting under the freelander in the range.

What the DC100 will never be is a replacement for the Defender. So the comments in the article about a new Defender being rugged, affordable etc are more encouraging as it suggests that LR are rethinking their strategy and the new 2015 Defender will be more like the current model in concept and design philosophy at least.
