Would some one know if the new 2.4 TDCI Puma defender 90 shares the chassis with 300/200 Defender 90? Or perhaps a series defender?

Can the body and engine of a puma defender be bolted to a chassis from an older defender?

Thanks guys!

yes and no it could be done with the right no how but i dont think none of the engine mounts gearbox mounts would be the same, only a guess though:p

Yes if you can weld. But why would you?? I think you may also have trouble mating the engine upto a LR gearbox. Don't forget the puma is a ford transit engine.

I suppose in terms of an engine upgrade it'd be an interesting project but you'll need all the ecu/management electrotrickery as well & i've a feeling that the absence of a puma gearbox might confuse the poor old ecu a tad.

The position of the engines are different - but nothing is impossible. I presume you have a mint 200 tdi chassis?

Don't think so...hes looking for an old defender or series chassis for reasons unknown...

Wouldn't be the first time something has been rebuilt on an older chassis and claimed as 'tax exempt' by using the v5 from the older chassis....naughty naughty.

We must have some brighter/lazier crims round this way then - they just put the ID from the old chassis onto the newer one  saves faffing about with the cutting and welding :p

Thanks guys for the info!!

No I have not stolen the puma..

One is available for cheap but import duty has not been paid... so I cannot drive/register it.

The duty is too steep and the price gets wayyyyyyyy out of reach if I pay that.

So I was thinkin of getting an old defenders chassis and gettin it swaped.

So if all else is the same like lenght and width and the only problem is the location of engine and tranny mounts then it is very much doable..

Or it isn't?

Where are you that allows people to avoid import duty by this method?? I ask because the vehicles i import are refused an mot if they are not in complete, original stand with no modifications....i'd say putting a new defender body onto an older chassis is a 'slight' deviation from these requirements...

Well we dont have Mots n all...

We just get the car registered once and keep paying a little tax rest of the life irrespective of the condition of the car.. all the rules do exist like annual road worthy test and stuff but they are hardly enforced.

So yeah its not really legal but its commonly done on land cruisers, Mitsubishis, Wranglers TJs and YJs onto CJ7 frames etc.. basically any non monocoque vehicle.

Im not getting any clear answer... can it be done? or I shouldn't be asking this here?

Where on earth are you?

The engine mounts might need sorting but........

Is it not possible to go and take some measurements?

Most of things are inter-changable.
