hi all. does anyone know where i can get a new chassis fitted to my series 3 in the northwest of england? i am nr wigan. thanks
I can only assume part of the inflated prices are to cover their inflated eBay prices for having an auction listing with Buy It Now with the auction starting at the same price as the Buy It Now - so - no one is ever going to bid on it, just buy it, but yet they are paying eBay for both the auction and Buy It Now service.
Its all about the attention to detail
I think a thousand quid is pretty reasonable considering the amount of work involved.
A **** load of hassle usually.yep - fook knows what you'll find when you start pulling things apart
what makes you say that's an inflated price ?
I've seen 2 blokes swap a 109 chassis in a 16 hour day, so surely if you put four blokes on, assuming they are proffessionals, they could do it in half the time- so one normal 8 hour day- why are they on £250 a day? Garages and mechanics are, in general, rip off merchants, which is half the reason I got into Landies, because you can do it all yourself, granted it will take longer, but there are always people willing to help, and slaves running around (sons and nephews in particular) and the only real skills you will need are, patience, a strong hammer arm and a bit of practice with a mig.what makes you say that's an inflated price ?
I agree that most garages will rob you given half a chance. I also agree that landies are great because you can fix em yourself, that's why I have them myself. However changing a chassis is a big job during which all sorts of problems will be found. Corrosion, knackered parts that can't be re used, etc etc. Fitting all new bushes takes time as does making and fitting new brake pipes. TBH if you advertised a chassis fitting service that only tok two days and cost under 1000 quid you'd be swamped with work and you'd have to put the price up just to keep some of the customers away. And by the time you'd paid all your overheads, premises, power, gas, wages, advertiseng etc you'd be making a loss. Doing it on your drive with the help of 3 or 4 mates is one thing, doing it on a business footing is quite another.I've seen 2 blokes swap a 109 chassis in a 16 hour day, so surely if you put four blokes on, assuming they are proffessionals, they could do it in half the time- so one normal 8 hour day- why are they on £250 a day? if it's as easy as you make it out to be why don't you starting advertising your services, undercut the opposition and make a fortune ?
now now, we both kno whats involved, some people just see the nuts and bolts, stripping a body , yes ok a three hour job, dropping an engine and gear box , same, then swapping over the running gear etc it all relitavly straight foreward,
BUT what hey dont see, is the ****in agro and problems yer come up against in the process,
i cant see that as an over inflated price really , on some landrovers it would leave you out of pocket ! trust me
as fer doing everything on a landrover yer self, and it being dead easy , i dont kno a lot of people that would strip a gear box and engine down to every last nut and bolt then rebuild it , its far easier to let someone else do it , unless time on your side,
as for under cutting garages , ****in forget it, every one and his dogs doing jobs on cars at the mo so yer wont get a look in , unless yer already have a large customer base
al tell ya why it takes so long
noticed this morning the sun was out - so doris buggered off to Litchfield shopping - thinking i could get a full day in
walking out to the garage noticed the kitchen sink outlet was backed up
6 hours later having rodded every drain in the road i now can't be arsed to start painting me bulkhead now
a grand is CHEAP !
ah thers always somethin stopin yer , fer me its people callin round at the mo, usualy wantin somethin, must be the weathers gettin better
