Finally got round to having a look at the boot floor on my 300 tdi. When I bought it last September the garage said the last owner had it replaced, and from undermeath on a ramp it all looked very nice.
From the top,...

Lots of surface rust on the new panel because the inspection panel seal has been letting moisture in. The paint on these panels is only a rust prevention coat until they are properly undersealed or painted. Luckily there are no holes and the rest of the back end looks good. The panel was also welded in decently as well, so now its time to get jiggy with the wire brushes/rust primer and smoothrite.
Check your replacement boot floor. It may be dissolving from within.
