Series 3 New battery suggestions please

Morning , Im going up North for Christmas and really don't want to brake down due to a bad battery (children and wife will never forgive me and I'll never forgive myself ), I hardly ever use the Land Rover , however it seems as though whenever I do any electrics and mess about with the lights that it drains the battery , Im getting a back up just in case , I don't want to spend more than £75 , any suggestions , I'll need to collect if for Christmas and am in Birmingham , I just don't think current battery should die do frequency.

I think the size is an 019 but check the dims to the battery holder. 019 size is around 90 - 110 AH but if its diesel then its the cold cranking amps (CCA) that matter. They vary from £68 to £200 and from expereince I would say between £65 and £120 you get what you pay for, after that its more about warrenty period. Having bought a lot of batteries over the years they seem very good at lifing them to 3-6 months over the warrenty.

If when all electrics in use battery is draining that would suggest Alternator was not doing its job.

There is only one answer to a question about buying batteries and that is to get the biggest bugger that will fit in the space available. Always buy the best - you will never regret it. I have a Yuasa (I think?) in my P38 4.0 V8 which has been there for three years. Brilliant. However, as others have said, all your electrics need to be in good order otherwise the poor battery will be f***ing against thunder.

I was once advised to buy the cheapest battery (of the correct size and rating)off the internet with a 3 year warranty. If you don't use the Land Rover much, disconnect the battery and/or use a solar powered Trickle charger to keep it topped up.

I’d second the yuasa silver , got mine from Halfords not cheap but turns my diesel over nicely when it’s cold, a multimeter in-line with battery cable with everything off should see if there is any unknown current drain on the battery

Almost have been having the same problems as yourself, please look at my most recent threads to how it was dealt with. I am currently running a large bmw battery, as old seadog said, buy the biggest that fits it is about the cca at the end of the day. These series dont like cold start ups

For ketles and irons I buy cheapest with a 3yr warrenty because I can get a refund, but a refund is not much use on a cold morning when all you get is a"click". Fine on a second car if you have options. I have the biggest battery i can get in, around 110ah / 800 plus CCA and its started (diesel) down to -5 no problems. One cold day I hadn't put the engine stop all the way in and didn't notice. Cranked for ages then saw what the problem was, still had enough power to start, we were leaving a boot sale and were one of the last to go so it had to work. It cost a bit more and paid for itself that day.

+1 on the biggest that will fit, height is important if you don't want to weld it to the bonnet

That does not look very big, mine is 110Ah that is only 72Ah. But it is CCA which is important on a diesel and the pic does not give us that?

CCA was 635A when I checked the ebay advert.

I would have thought for an old diesel you would want over 800, could possibly get away with less in a petrol, but still seems on the low side considering when it is cold the 20/50 oil you have to churn around will be like treacle.

Unless it has already been dispatched, I would be tempted to see if you can swap it for this (link). Looks to be the same seller from the picture, 4 year warranty, is only £8 more, and has a much higher rating.

It is a petrol engine.
