it's always gonna be cheaper to do the job yourself and on top of that you will probably do a better job.. even if you are a novice and learn as you go along...

my head gaskets.. that I am boring everyone with... cheapest price I saw anyone mention for garage was £600 and none of my locals would do it that cheap...

my spend so far is under £300 and alright it's been drama and I have had the car off the road for a few weeks but a garage wouldn't have gone to the care and attention to detail I would (sorry to garages out there, I'm not talking ability just care... it's my motor and I want it right such as the thorough cleaning all the parts got etc)

the only time it's worth paying a garage IMHO is if it needs very specialist (ie expensive) tools or you don't have the spare time to do the job... and right now the garages I'm talking to aren't able to fit work in with less than a couple weeks notice anyway byt which time you probably could have done the job yourself.

..and I'm a novice.. I learn something new every time I pick up a spanner
