Going up in the world !

Bought a 2004 TD4 HSE. It was very cheap. Bought it for the HSE goodies really but get this:

PO had a garage fit new track rods, arb links and lower arms a year ago. Knocking over bumps. Quick look. Rear wishbone nuts loose. Track rod ends no locking bolts.

Had a recon gearbox and IRD and VCU a year ago. Propshaft now missing and IRD pinion seized solid. Drives fine with no noises. Guess the cogs are stripped or can the front wheels and diff work perfectly with the pinion bearing seized ?? Don't think so !

So the morale is, not many folk know what they are doing.

Too good to break. The PO was quoted £900 to get through MOT and not Inc sorting the 4 wd.

Ideas on IRD please ?

If the IRD pinion isn't free to turn, then it's dead. However if the crown wheel thrust race has collapsed, then it's not going to drive the pinion anyway.
The vehicle will still have FWD, as the rear pinion is geared off the front drive.

A replacement IRD is needed, as the one on it will be beyond economical repair.

What happened to the recon IRD and VCU I wonder, or was the PO simply ripped off?
