So, my Landy left me strandy on the motorway last night. It was a very dramatic scene, the police turned up with their flashing cones and I could see the illuminated X5 sniggering at us :/
Then the lovely AA man carried us all home at 1am.

So anyway, I need a new alternator. The garage are calling me tomorrow with a price, what should I expect?

Many thanks guys :)

Alternator from a garage could be as much as £300:eek: Plus fitting which will depend on how accessible it is. Easy job to DIY and you should find an alternator for less than half the garage price.

There's a quite a few bits to take off but it's actually a fairly straight forward job tbh. You could probably get your existing alternator fixed for 30 quid or so. There's a place in Croydon (appreciate you're nowhere near there but there must be others) that fixes them as its usually oil contamination in the commutator (not sure that's the right bit tbh)

i recently paid £400 !!!!!
admittedly I was phoning everyone local to fix it for me as I needed it asap and only have the street to park on so I didn't fancy crawling around under there with busses passing by, so I took the easy but expensive option.
